So last night at around midnight our foster  Lily went into labor! She was a little nervous and kept trying to curl up in my lap, poor little girl...

Anyways, I brought her over to her box and she lay down right away and I just stayed and petted her. The labor moved really fast and just after 1 in the morning the first kitten was born. She had a bit of difficulty because the first little one was breech, but after that, they all came smoothly! I could hardly believe that she had 5!! I thought 1-3 kittens most since she really wasn't that big, but I guess you never really know! Lily is an amazing mother, she hasn't left the nest yet and she loves her babies soooo much.

Here are the kittens in order:

Kitten 1-female, likely a torbie, I can see red in her fur.

Born at 1:02, breech

Kitten 2- male, black

Born at 1:11, head first

Kitten 3 -female, tabby calico (not sure the right terminology for her color, so if anyone knows!)

Born at 1:24, head first

Kitten 4- male, tabby and white

Born at 2:08, breech

Kitten 5- male, tabby and white

Born at 2:32, head first

And, of course, here are the pics!

From left to right:Kitten 4, kitten 1, kitten 2, kitten 3, kitten 5

What a great mommy!

This little girl is going to have attitude- she came out squealing like crazy and she fights viciously for her spot at the milk bar

Enjoy!

Beautiful kittens!! And Lily is being such a good mommy cat. Five of them, too; you wouldn't have thought there'd be room inside poor Lily for that many. They look fat and healthy. No mini-Lilys, though. *sigh*

"Tabby-and-calico" is often called "torbie-and-white", or "patched tabby and white", or just "torbie", for "tabby" and "tortie" smushed together. :) Or "Caliby". Or just "gorgeous".

Are you fostering, or are you going to find adopters on your own? Maybe when they are a little older, you could have potential new owners visit and get to know the kittens so that when they turned 12 weeks they would be going home with a friend :)

Huge chart of kitty colors:

You know we're going to demand regular pictures of this cute fuzziness, right?

OMG how beautiful is to see a mommy cat with her precious babies!!!!!!!!! She is adorable herself and looks like a wonderful mommy! I'm so glad they are with you,  and that everything went fine with her labor;)

Thanks for the info! That chart was really interesting. I wonder how all of the tabbies ended up being brown tabbies when she's definatly a blue tabby...

And we're fostering so Lily and the babies will go back to the shelter in 8-9 weeks and get adopted out there

Unfortunatly our shelter is just overflowing with cats and it's hard for even kittens to get homes
. But it is a no kill shelter so they aren't at risk for being put to sleep, but it's still sad...most kittens there end up being raised in cages since there aren't enough foster homes in the summer.
