I posted (yesterday I think) about Cuddles having diarrhea. On the 18th Cuddles started having diarrhea about 2 times per day. Then she got sick in the middle of the night, and by then, Cookie was fine. :( I had my kitties on Nature's Variety commercial raw. Then yesterday (the 20th) Cookie started having bad diarrhea like Cuddles and they both lost their appetite. :( I rushed them both to the vet this morning. They took a fecal sample from both kitties, and they took in a sample of the Nature's Variety raw food I was feeding for testing. They sent me home with some metronidazole to give to each kitty 2 times per day. :( I'm so so scared. For now, I put my kitties back on their backup diet (Weruva for Cookie, Wellness Kitten for Cuddles). The weirdest thing is aside from the getting sick, diarrhea and loss of appetite, they have normal energy and play like normal.

I'm also freaked out because Dr. Sonia mentioned something about Cuddles possibly having IBD. Help!! :vibes::vibes::vibes:

Sorry you are going through this.  I did non think Nature's Variety was on the cat food recall list.  Hopefully, it is just a bug that will be taken care of by the meds you are giving.  How long before you get the results of the test?

I'm also sorry you are going through this. Why does your vet think that Cuddles has IBD? It's awfully soon to be making an assumption like that if you ask me. She just started getting this and since your other kitty got sick at the same time, I don't see any reason yet to go there for diagnosis. I'd wait and see what the tests results show. There may be something wrong with the raw food, even though it wasn't on the recall list, something new could be happening. Although usually NV is good about being careful about pathogens, it can still happen. Just keep doing what you are doing right now with feeding Wellness and doing the medication and try not to get too worried right now. I know that's hard but as I said, it's awfully early to be diagnosing your kitty with IBD. IBD is a diagnosis of exclusions of other diseases and conditions so this is still pretty new to be doing that.

Thank you guys so so much for your replies. :hugs: I get their fecal results on Monday hopefully, but the food may take a little longer. Dr. Sonia did mention parasites (even though they were given a dewormer, it may be something else). I'm going to give the metronidazole to both of them for the first time now, fingers crossed they don't hate the liquid medicine too much! :vibes:

Even if they do hate it (which they will, guaranteed) it's important to give it to them. If their diarrhea worsens call the vet as sometimes a that's a side affect of the medication. But make sure for now to give it to them both. And yes, that can happen, even though they have been dewormed, something else can be in there causing problems.
