I have a beautiful kitty who's now 11 months old. She eats paper, bills, mail in envelopes, paper bags, magazines, toilet paper, etc. and I thought at first it was a teething thing that she'd grow out of or a need for extra fiber, but she wont eat cat grass however she will eat my houseplants. As she gets older she just eats more paper and now has acquired a taste for yarn, string, cords, and pulls up carpet fibers to chew on. She's starting to eat the fake fur (and real fur) on her cat toys. She has scratch posts kitty condos and loves her turbo ball, but prefers paper over any toy.
I had tons of cat toys but she ate the ones with string or yarn on and I now have to restrict her from ones she can eat. My vet told me string and yarn is especially bad for cats and can actually kill them when it twists in their stomachs.

I have to keep her in a cat cage now and watch her carefully when I let her out.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

First off I would find another vet and quickly. I would find a clinic that caters to cats and take your cat in to be checked. She could have a vitamin defieciency that is quite severe. A blood test would tell the vet if she does. The disorder is called PICA and it prompts the cat to eat stuff she would normally not touch. Living in a cage is no fun for a cat, I urge you to take her in and be tested.

Good luck!

Yikes I thought Zoey was bad
She tries eats her toys occasionally and carpet pieces but eating everything in sight sounds like a real problem.

I agree you should get the cat checked out.. I dont like to hear that you are keeping the cat in a cage. I find that to be cruel
She probly doesnt realize that she's doing anything wrong. Can you cat proof the house? Try to keep papers in drawers maybe. Do you have a pic of her?

Good luck.
