:) so good to hear a happy ending :)

Working at a shelter I see so many lost critters who's people have either given up on them or just plain dumped them.

Also a good way to regain some faith in humanity. The old guy at the park didn't have to go out of his way to do what he did, but he did.  Good to know there are still nice people around who go teh extra mile to help out a critter and his family :)

Love the ending. When I see posts about cats escaping outside I feel so bad...Nothing makes me happier to read they have been found caught and back inside with their owners yahooooooo!

I know from talking to folks in Australia that in most of their states you need to have you cats chipped.

Problem is that here in the US most dog wardens and shelters don't check cats for chips :(.

The OPs post about the door being left open is a good example of just why we should get (even indoor) cats chipped. You never know when they will slip out or heavens forbid a flood, fire, or other natural disaster will happen.

Like I said above it's nice to know things turned out well :).

Hi Everyone,

This is the original poster.  We are now happily settled in Hong Kong.  Soda (and his bro Bubbles) endured a 15 hour flight from NYC! We've all settled in nicely now.

Just wanted to leave some tips to anyone who gets into our position (indoor cat goes missing)

- he / she is probably close by

- do not approach the cat excitedly (like I did) if you spot him.  Approach very slowly.  I read crawl towards him, without eye contact and speaking only loudly enough for someone just next to you to hear

- you got to spend some $$$.  I spent $160 at Kinkos / Fedex to do some large laminated posters and flyers.  The posters have to be clear enough for a moving car to clearly see

- you are not supposed to directly put flyers into mailboxes (illlegal in the US), but you can leave on the side or give to people by hand

- talk to neighbours, local real estate agents, postmen, trash collectors etc

- borrow / buy humane animal traps from shelters / Lowes / Home Depot.  Test it well.  You don't want it to trigger because of anything that isn't your cat.  But be aware that other strays or animals may get trapped too

- in the end for us, it was the posters, the kindness or strangers and trapping Soda in a lucky position.

- don't give up and feel free to message me here if you have any questions.

Good luck if you find yourself in this unhappy position!
