My mom's family is having their big summer reunion in August. She hasn't been there in quite a few years (at least 20) because my Dad wouldn't go and she didn't want to go alone. But she'd like to go this year and has asked me to take her. I don't have a problem taking her; heck, I haven't seen most of the people in decades, so it might be interesting. I no longer even get invitations, but she still does. She asked me if I would supply some food to take with us and yes, I'll gladly do that. Not a problem. In a way, I'm rather looking forward to going. I was talking to my sister about it and she said she might go with us, too.

Rick's family has a small reunion about every other year or so...nothing fancy, just a picnic at a state park and we all bring food. The older people catch up on all the diseases and illnesses making the rounds
and the younger people hang out at the beach. We "middle agers" go for walks and just chat with each other. I usually walk around, taking pictures of everybody. Then I put the pictures in a reunion scrapbook and bring the book to the following reunions. Everybody always has a smile when they look at the older pictures. Some of the aunts and uncles are no longer with us, so it's nice to have the pictures to remember them. I have pictures from back in the mid-70s in my books. It's nice to see how the kids have grown and they have their own kids now, too. But the clan used to be a lot larger than it is now.

Does your family have huge reunions? Do you attend?

Yes, were having one soon, but ours consists of relatives that we've found through doing the family tree.

There's a Facebook page of the city l grew up in, and a couple of my second cousins are also on. Two weeks one of the members in the group asked my maiden name after l mentioned where my Dad was born, because she said her Mother said there was a relative in their family with the same surname. Long story short we found several other distant relations that day because the two l was chatting to on the page got their siblings to jump in, so were all planning a get together with the rest of the family to discuss the tree

Facebook has it's uses after all

I really, really wish my family would have a reunion. Unfortunately, after the death of my Aunt and Uncle in '97, my family started fighting and divided. Most don't talk to one another. Some have even faked their own deaths. If there was one though, I'd be there with bells on. I sure do miss the days that we all got along and could get together.

I grew up attending the big reunions put on by members of my paternal grandmother's family. (HUGE families!) They even had an association to deal with it. It was the first family event Mom recalls attending with Dad when they were dating. He warned her that some of them love to fight as much as they loved to eat - and they loved to eat!!!! But over the years it has dwindled down with the passing of the elders.

Mom's paternal side once tried a family reunion at a park where one of my grandfather's brothers was a ranger. Mom said several families were missing and later it turned out that a group was at the appointed site, but the rest were at another site and wondering where the rest of the clan was. They gave up after that. :lol3:

My dad's side of the family is too scattered.. by location and brains. They don't make much of an effort to keep in contact with us, even though we were constantly inviting them over and such. We gave up after so many declines from them.

My mom's side we keep in touch with.. we often go to family gatherings and such.. but not much of a reunion though.

My sister's planning a reunion for next summer. We'll see who shows up!

I wish we did!!  My family is getting more and more scattered about; but when I was a kid it was like a reunion whenever someone had a birthday or a shower or wedding.  I miss those days terribly!!

I don't have much family left, and I would rather have hernia surgery with a rusty chainsaw than spend the day with most of them. My dd, sil, and my 2 darling granddaughters are the only ones I care anything about.

My father was one thirteen children. With many cousins and their children, that side of the family is huge! On Father's side we used to allgo to my uncle's house for a huge get together. After my grandfather died this slowly faded away. Now many of my aunt and uncles are either no longer with us or frail. For the most part we only see each other now at wakes and funerals.
