Sushi had  surgery for an abscess and received 12 stitches along his anus to his scrotum on Tuesday. He been given 12.5mg of Tramadol  for every 12hrs for pain and 1ml Lactulose every 8hrs to make his stool softer for his comfort. He has a cone on but every couple of hours he goes crazy, especially 10hrs after being given his pill. He tries to lick the incision and rolls all over. I have him in a dog crate but since too small to fit a litter box I have to let him out to use the litter box and he still hasn't done #2 yet. I just found out he popped a stitch so I'm calling the vet in the morning.

Any tips on keeping him calm, it's heartbreaking to see him so frustrated with his e-collar and in pain and I don't want him to pop anymore stitches.

I only know what my vet did - he used what he called 'industrial strength' glue because she was so active.  No stitches - no worries about keeping her quiet, which would have been imposable !
