Last wednesday a friend of mine found 4 baby kittens. We are sure the mother is not around and my friend has two children under the age of two so I told her I would take one of the kits. I got the only female and shes so dduuurrnn cute =)

Anyways..I understand the whole having to stimulate them and that KMR sometimes makes them constipated (im guessing them to be around 3 weeks) so now I have her on kitten glop and she just started eating a/d canned food today per the vet. Well..she DOESNT POOP! She pooed Thursday when I got her  and then I had to give her an enema Sunday to get her to go. It was orange and there was a good bit. The next day...no poop again. Another enema and there was a good 3-4 inches of orange poop. Poor thing. So thats when I had enough. We took her to the vet yesterday. They did a fecal test and checked her over. Everything was negative and they said she's very healthy and to try getting her to eat some canned food and just to keep doing what I'm doing. -_-

I love the vets office we go to. They're amazing. But the poor dear still isn't going. They gave me an actual rubber hose enema for her since I only had a small plastic syringe and I did another one lastnight...same thing.....a lot of poop but this time the color is FINALLY starting to turn more of a mustardy color (im starting to think the orange was from it sitting in her so long). They gave me a stool softener and anti biotics to keep her on for one week.

But what can I do to make this poor thing go poo?!?! I stimulate her every time she wakes up and every meal. She pees great. No problems there at all. I tried all the tricks. Pumpkin, a drop or two of oil, pedyialite. I'm at my wits end. (not with her, just the situation because I feel so bad for her.) and her belly is just so bloated. I even burp her after every bottle..

Poor baby! I just had one of my bottle babies go a little over 4 days without pooping. KMR can make them constipated pretty easily, which I am assuming is what happened. After belly rubs multiple times a day and some stimulating/massaging I was FINALLY able to get her to pass 4 tiny hard lumps. I had to sit there stimulating her for a good 5 minutes before she was able to get the first hard lump out.

I don't know what you're using for stimulation, but I use the 'triangle method' and it seems to work great! You use one finger from the top and two from the sides forming a triangle. This video shows it somewhat:

so evwry enema she is producing lots of stool but no matter what i try she wont eliminate it otherwise. cotton balls, wash cloths..and just my finger to give her bum a break....pumpkin, oil in her bottles, laxative from vet, kitten glop instead of kmr since i heard it constipates kittens....

I am thinking that your thread would be better suited in Kitten Care.... ? You will get more help and advice in that forum. I will ask a mod to move this thread for you. Bless you for taking this kitten. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for all the babies.

Fortunately it sounds like you are doing everything right. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working! I wish I had brilliant insight for you but all I can say is keep doing what your'e doing and hopefully her body will start to regulate. If the vet said she is otherwise healthy I don't know what could be causing it. Just hang in there and take her back to the vet if you need to!

And congratulations on being a cat convert. We welcome you to the club!

You could try a little bit more water in her food, though it will take a few days to make a difference (if it does).

and ya...i think ive exhausted the tricks to make her go. i guess its her turn now. hopefully she goes soon...she cries when i touch her little belly =[

ive been diluting since saturday night. i had to give her another enema yesterday because she looked like ahe was going to explode and if you toiched her belly she cried. well today my pit bull gave her a 20 minute long tongue bath and she finnnaalllyy went. once she started going though i took over. i know she would be doing it if it were her own puppy but her eating kitty poop just grosses me out a bit. i dont mind her making her pee. so we finally got some poo. so hopefully this will be the beginning of normality for her.

and i posted a picture of her tail on the other thread. =]

You mentioned you were using cotton balls.  When I was bottle feeding my little (now spoiled) orphans, I read that the texture of cotton is much softer than the tongue of a mama cat, so it was not the best material to use for stimulation.  I switched to ridged cosmetic cotton rounds, which aren't much more rough than the cotton balls, and they did make the stimulation go a bit faster .  Maybe a rough wash cloth or something similar would be more effective with your little one.

Another method I read about was putting the rear end of the kitten beneath a slow stream of warm tap water while stimulating.  I don't recall whether this method was intended to encourage bowel movements or to reduce messiness, but experimenting with different methods couldn't hurt at this point.

Good luck with your kittens!  It's wonderful to know that there are people out there willing to do what it takes to make sure orphaned kittens are alright.  I understand your frustration and exhaustion and am sending positive thoughts your way!  All the best luck.

And here's a video of my grown little orphan being bathed by his big brother to keep spirits up :)

I am similarly afflicted with a cat allergy (though not as serious sounding as yours). I always get symptoms whenever I am around new cats but after a few days my body adjusts. It's actually good you have her as a kitten, as they produce a lot less dander. You body will start to acclimate as she gets bigger and hopefully it will keep your symptoms minimum.

ahahahahhahhaha that may be the best "love of a kitten" analogy I have ever heard!

Yes, I know many with allergies who started with a kitten and were fine with them once they grew into a cat. Allergy meds work of course, but I have always preferred a "balls to the wall" approach. Just assault my system with dander and get it over with. You saved her and intimately know her bowels- I feel like that's the beginning of a lifetime love!
