A student of mine was telling me how her husband has severe cat allergies, but they resolved it by spraying the cats regularly with a substance that neutralised the allergens.  I think most of you would know about this, but I've never heard of it before and I don't think it's very common in Australia.

Anyway, I checked out what is available, and the main one here seems to be Allerpet.

They say it's completely safe, but I'm thinking that the cat would be ingesting so much of this stuff.  I've copied the ingredients (below).  There are herbal ingredients, but even herbal doesn't mean it is going to be good for them. The last two are known to be toxic to humans.  All in all, this seems like a great thing for humans, but a pretty lousy one for cats!

Any comments?

Ingredients
DI UV water; quaternium-22; quaternium-26; allantoin; rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract; glycerin; panthenol; aloe vera; camellia sinensis leaf extract; hydroxypropyltrimonium hydrolyzed wheat protein; sodium styrene/PEG-10 maleate/acrolates copolymer (and) ammonium nonoxynol-4 sulfate; chamomilla recutita (matricaria) extract; hydrolyzed collagen; citric acid; Methylchloroisothiazolinone (and) Methylisothiazolinone.

I found out that I am terribly allergic to cats, as well, after we adopted our little baby more than a week ago. I did my research, and stumbled upon Allerpet-c, and after reading the rave reviews on Amazon, I am on the lookout for a local store that might carry it. However, I did find in one forum that it may cause diarrhea, although it doesn't seem to be a widely found problem, but to keep in mind, just in case. I have yet to try it out myself, and I will keep you updated once I get my hands on a bottle.

Hi thrrrob, and welcome to the site!

I'm feeling a little concerned about the long term affects with this product.  But it would be good to know your experience.

Will your cat let you bath him? That is always helpful.
