Hi all, a little black and white kitten wondered into my garden last week and hasn't left so i have decided to take it in and keep it.

it appears to be a she and is very small and is ok eating solids.
it has settled in very well and made its self right at home but i am a bit clueless about cats.

her poops are runny and her gums are very pale but appears in good form and playful and its sleeping alot.

Can anyone advise me on the right steps to take please or what to do

Hi there!! :wavey: Thank you for taking in this kitty!!

She needs to go to the vet as soon as you can take her. The runny poop is probably from coccidia, a common parasite found outside, and her pale gums are probably from anemia, which she can get from horrible flea infestations -- and if she's been abandoned outside in the summer, she definitely has fleas!! Fleas carry tapeworms, so she almost certainly has a few of those inside her too.

But not to worry, this is all normal. The vet can easily give you some wormer and flea treatment; it shouldn't be very expensive. She doesn't sound like anything else is wrong, but if she needs something else, the vet will let you know at the check-up.

Is this your first cat? Is she going to stay inside, outside, or both? Do you plan on declawing her? (Please, please don't! Inside cat or not. PM me if you need to know more.) The vet will let you know how old she is (roughly), and from there you can figure out when she needs to be spayed -- they do it at around 4-6 months here in the US.

Thanks for coming to TCS with your questions, and keep us posted. :D :vibes:

A vet checkup soon is definitely in order.

I would recommend an indoor only kitty unless you are in a rural setting (I still would want to keep my kitty indoor even in the country, but that's just me).  Also vote no on declawing and yes on spaying.

Agree with above :D :clap: Vet check!! AW thank you for taking in this little baby. She most likely has some worms which is going to cause the loose poops. Not to worry, this all can be resolved by taking the kitten to your vet. Keep us posted!!! Congratulations!! Have you picked a name yet? :rub:
