This is horrible. Why do computers have to decide who lives and who dies?

Many shelters require a waiting period while they check references (which is as it should be), some even do home visits first. I won't comment on the story, I can't read it. I just wanted to comment on this. Then why didn't they just pick up the cats on the same day they submitted their request? You should be able to take a cat home on the day you request it.
It could be a situation like when I pull from one of the high kill shelters here, I live 3 hours away and can not make it there the same day I commit to the cat. I can usually come the next day or a few days latter and the shelter will hold them, or if there is no space there is a voluenteer down there that works closely with the shelter and she sometimes will pull and keep them in a dog crate at her house till I can get down there. Without her I actually would not be able to save any because she can get them from the shelter for me even on days they are closed to the public (which is 4 days a week). Then why didn't they just pick up the cats on the same day they submitted their request? I don't blame you Otto. Basically, the story is somebody changed the computer program for listing Death Row animals and somehow adopted cats were listed by accident. Many shelters require a waiting period while they check references (which is as it should be), some even do home visits first.
