Thanks so much for your very kind comments.  I think she is pretty special too!  Looking at these pictures, they make her look so much bigger than she really is...LOL  Funny how the vet shaved so much of her belly when the incision is only about 1/2 inch long.  Also, her microchip is on her side, not between her shoulders like it should be.  I'm guessing that the gap between her shoulders was so small that it immediately floated to her side.  At first we thought she had either an extra rib or some sort of parasite, but when my vet checked to see the microchip, that is when we knew it was simply the chip.  Crazy, but apparently not uncommon.  In time, I'm sure we either won't feel it or it will have floated further down her body...who knows where.

Both of you have beautiful cats too and aren't we lucky to have black beauties!   Redvelvetone, if you want another, just go for it.  They bring so much joy to our lives.

Thanks everyone!

Mrblanche, we call her eyes 'headlights' because they are so bright.  In the pictures they seem quite yellow and in fact at times they are, but often they are more a light green...very pretty if I do say so myself.  She is exactly what I wanted in a cat .

Nanner, you are right, she definitely is comfortable and has found her furever home!  We all absolutely love her.  I do think though that she will end up being top cat as the older ones are letting her do whatever she wants.  You can almost see them role their eyes, but also seem to like being around her.  It has given them a little more pep in their step or so it seems.  I love watching the dynamics.  The dog is definitely smitten and has learned to be gentle with her.  Now we need to teach her to be gentle with him...LOL  She's never rough, just rambunctious.  She tries to engage all the animals in play.  It's quite comical to watch.

They do get over-zealous with the shaving, don't they? But don't worry, Lily, the fur grows back--we promise!
Anyway, it's better than hair getting in the vet's way.

How old is she?

Hi Callista, We think she is about 15 weeks old, but who really knows.  We have very little information about her.  She is very tiny which doesn't show in the pictures.  All the cats I've had over the years including my Cornish Rex, I'm sure were bigger than Lily at this age.  Of course, it is possible that my memory isn't serving me well.  Whatever, she is healthy, beautiful and a tonne of fun!   BTW, you are right, it is better that they do a major shaving job so there is no excuse that hair is in the way for the spaying procedure.

I love, love, love your avatar picture.  It that your companion?

Nah, it's just an avatar I picked up somewhere. I think I uploaded it mostly because it was the first picture of a cat I could find when I was picking out my avatar :p

I don't (currently) have a black cat. Mine are tabby-striped and dilute calico, respectively. Perhaps some day I shall have a black cat. I love the look of them, like tiny panthers.

Is Lily a rescue/shelter kitty? If so, maybe she is small because her mom had poor prenatal care? Kittens tend to be smaller in those cases. My cat Christy (who is somewhere between six and eight years old and weighs only seven and a half pounds) came from a shelter and probably had poor nutrition as a kitten; at least, we think she did, because she got dumped at the shelter by somebody who put her in a cardboard box, dropped the box, and ran. I mean, seriously, how cruel is that? But if a cat is small, but healthy, like Christy is, then there is no cause to worry! Anyway, at fifteen weeks, perhaps she'll start growing quickly now that she has lots of good food.

Yup, Lily is a rescue kitty.  In fact, almost all of my cats have been.  I had a Cornish Rex once that wasn't from a rescue but all the rest have.  I love rescue kittens.  It makes me feel good to rescue a kitten or cat.  The shelters are overflowing with kittens and cats at this time of year, so I'm really glad I was able to find the absolute right companion that I was wanting from a shelter.

It is very possible that Lily was abandoned by her mother or actually who knows, but I just think this kitten will be slighter in build than my others.  Mind you, my daughter used to have a kitten that had very small paws, so we assumed he would remain a small, slim cat.  26 lbs. later and we knew we were dead wrong.  The history on him was that he was found by a construction worker at a site and her heard some kittens crying.  He could only reach one and that was the kitten that my daughter adopted.  Even with limiting his food and spending a fortune on the proper diet for him, he still maintained his 26 lbs.  I often wondered if he was eating her shoes when she was at work...LOL  Seriously, he was one massive cat.

I'm not worried about Lily.  She seems to be thriving here and eating well.  She certainly doesn't seem as frail as she was when we first got her one week ago yesterday.  She has brought a lot of great energy to our home at a time when we really could use it.  To be frank, this has been one hell of a difficult year.  BUT there is light at the end of the tunnel and we are moving forward with sweet little Lily to keep us amused.

I know what you mean. There's nothing like a friendly cat to make a tough time better. My cats are actually "certified" as emotional support animals (which means very little, except that my counselor thinks it is good for me to have pets and they are allowed to live with me even if the landlord doesn't allow pets, provided I pay for any damage they might do). Cats are a safe, non-threatening, non-complex way to get social interaction. I don't have to think so hard or work so hard to connect with them as I do with people. I've even learned some things about interacting with people from the things I learned about interacting with cats.

We definitely can learn a lot from our furry friends.  Our pets are important members of our family and that is how it has always been from the first time we brought our first kitten home.  I completely understand what you mean about not having to work or think so hard to connect with cats as you do with people.  I sincerely don't know what we would do without or furry companions.  I was devastated when my dog passed away and having this new addition to our family has brought so much joy to all of us.
