Hi guys, I'm new here, but was hoping for some insight on lily leaves. First off, I am not even sure the flower is a lily. It's pink, was bought in an arrangement with maybe 12 total flowers (including a dyed blue flower of some sort) in the grocery store a week ago.

Knowing I have 2 cats, I kept them in the bathroom at night with the door closed. Well this AM after I brought them out while I was eating my breakfast I noticed my slick, fast and naughty cat had pulled the pink bunch out of the vase. I didn't notice any missing chunks on the leaf, but did notice teeth marks. I looked online and saw symptoms may be visible within 2-6 hours, or some not at all. He has ate, drank, slept, played, all normal. No vomiting. I called the vet and scheduled an apt for an exam and kidney panel.

I'm not sure they are lilies. I'm also wondering basic flower info here - can they lose their potency as they begin to wilt? The flowers were losing pedals and the leaves were becoming a grimy green.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Is there anything I can do until the vet appointment?

SInce he didn't ingest the leaf, does that make a difference?

Thanks guys.

I have been in the same situation as you. Save the plant in case your cat begins to show any signs of illness and you need to take him in.

In the case of my cat(s) they got into a bad plant too, some kind of water lily or bamboo-thing. They did not eat it but they chewed on the leaves (as evidenced by teeth marks and pieces of plant where it should not have been). They were ok and nothing happened.

Like you, I've learned that any plant is fair game and no matter where you try and hide it, they will find it. And if you find a spot they can't reach, then it isn't worth having bought the darn thing lol.

Good luck and let us know if your kitty is ok.

Okay, I got worried and couldn't wait until today so I took him to emergency last night. Showed the doc a pic of the flowers, and she said they were a kind of day lily. I began bawling for the 30 minutes he was in the back getting blood drawn. He got a kidney reading and both his BUN  and creatine were normal. He did not have fever. Gums were pink. She said she didn't feel any masses.

Vet said it could be simply he had an upset tummy and keeps drinking a lot and to watch him. He hasn't vomitted, no diahrea. I'm still so very worried. I hardly slept last night to keep checking on him. I got up this AM to make my coffee and saw him get two big drinks already. He is drinking noticably more than normal. Sometimes sniffs his food and walks away, when usually, he'd eat at least a few pieces. He is still eating other times though. Still scared and concerned after vet visit. I think I may give him another full day and then take him back.

I am sorry you are so worried about your cat.  It is understandable.  One thing to watch for is drooling.  That happens sometimes when cats ingest thiings that poison them.  If you see that, high tail it to the vet or call.

well, my worry led me back to the vet. kidney levels checked again, all good. urine checked, all good. they gave me sucralfate for 2 a day for a week to help his belly. they think that may be the issue. luckily, what he ingested doesn't appear to be bothering his kidneys and i pray they remain okay. thanks for your support
