Trysh and I are co-fostering a stray cat who is/was pregnant.  Her water broke around 11 p.m. and she has delivered three kittens.  We think she may have one more kitten in her, we'll waiting and seeing.  Mother cat doing well; she was kneading in between kittens.  Here are some pictures (hope I do this right!)

How beautiful!

Each of the kittens is one of the colours of their mother..

Why do you think there may be another?

Mani, because her stomach is still big.  And one of the people present (knows a lot about births, rehabilitates wild animals, etc.) thinks she still feels a kitten inside.  Myrtle is thin to begin with, so her belly is particularly prominent.  She did eat the afterbirth for all three kittens.

It's hard to tell her age--any where from six months to two years--so we don't know if this is her first litter (and, last).  Certainly, she knew what to do and was fairly relaxed throughout the process.  Only went back and forth a few times among the nesting boxes we had set out before deciding on one closest to us.

The kittens are fairly long haired; Myrtle is short haired.

At what point should we become concerned?

Kittys tummy was still big and lumpy after she finished kittening even though we thought there was maybe one more in there turned out there wasnt. But then kitty is kinda a strange shape now, she is really skinny across her top and her belly is kinda hanging down (cos the milk i guess) !

Yeah, we hope it's because she's got lots of milk in her :)

My cat had 2 kittens and then about 26 hrs later, had another one.  I guess you'll know for sure she is done, when a few days pass without having any more.

Uno--the black cat in the picture--died last night:  failure to thrive.  He was given sub-q fluids and supplemental feeding, but sill died.  He/she was the runt of the litter, weighed 82 grams when born, lost two grams overnight.  Sad.

Myrtle didn't have the best of nutrition in the first four weeks of her pregnancy; the last two weeks (when we started fostering), she was eating three to four cans of Fancy Feast kitten food.

Myrtle isn't a doting mother.  She looks in on them.  The two other kittens aren't very energetic, they weighed around 102 grams when born, gaining a little.

She still looks like she is pregnant; her sides bulge.  But the rest of her body is skinny.

My friend (they are with her) will call a rescue organization who helped us with Myrtle two weeks ago; they have access to lots of drugs and good (inexpensive) vets.

Further update:
Sometime last night (Monday), Myrtle delivered two stillborn kittens.  Cute, they look like the two remaining survivors.  Interestingly, the stillborn kittens were of a good weight--around 92 grams.

Myrtle seems more comfortable, more doting mother.  And, she no longer looks pregnant.

The kittens are also gaining weight.

AW poor Myrtle trying to get out those last two big babies. Poor little ones. It does sound like they were a good size. Well, now Myrtle can concentrate on feeding her babies now that the birthing proces is all over with. Continued :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for Myrtle and babies. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
