Thursday night, at around midnight, my kitty - his name is Duzie and he is a four year old - began to puke for no reason that I could really tell. At first I did not think much about it, it was a clear puke with bits of fur in it, but he's done this before, though not often.

About half an hour later he puked again, the same thing.

A little concerned then, I began watching him. After that, like clockwork, every two to three he would puke again. Every time it would be the same thing, clear liquid with bits of bile and fur. Advice from a certified vet tech told me to remove water and food from him until his throwing up has stopped.

Well, it took nearly 10 hours later - with 4 more pukes - until he stopped. With the last one a fully formed hairball came with it.

After that he stopped puking, but now I cannot get him to eat or drink anything.

We bought him some pedialite and mixed it into some water, got some chicken in a can (water), low sodium chicken broth and rice. Mixed them together, but he wont touch it.

I'm hoping that if I leave it out for him he will take to it eventually. I'm just worried, and we don't have the money for a vet, at least not for a few more weeks.

Edit:

I forgot to mention, he has not used the litter box since this whole thing began.

What had he been eating before? If he has a favorite food you might try that instead of new things. Is he drinking any water at all?

Run...do not walk...to the vet in the morning.  He may have an obstruction.

We took him to Banfield Pet Hospital today.

Blood tests all came back clear, so no liver or kidney problems, a definite plus!

It seems he is constipated and we were given several pills and the like to help him with his problems. He was also given fluids subcutaneously so that it will absorb into his body over the course of 2 or so days.

The pills we got are:
Metronidazole
Famotidine
And Laxatone (tuna flavored) (Lactulose).

We got him home, tried giving him one of the quartered pills crushed and mixed with water with a syringe...with very mixed results. The next pill we just popped into his mouth and he was okay with that.

We also opened a can of soft cat food, I put some on my finger and put it into his mouth and then put him by the plate of food and he ate some.

So...I am here hoping that in 3 days time, he'll be okay.

Welcome and sorry to hear your Duxie is unwell. The Famotidine (Pepcid) is to treat digestive issues, including ulcers or even acid reflux, inflammation of the stomach or esophagus so that makes sense for the vet to prescribe that. The Laxotone is good for constipation. Not sure why the Metro was prescribed :dk: as that is for intestinal infections and/or bacteria. Usually for really bad diarrhea. A good medication though but never heard it treating constipation. But what do I know :lol3:!!! Be careful dosing the Metro. It is VERY VERY bitter. You have to get the pill way in the back of the throat. If not, Duxie will drool and foam. Don't worry if that happens - she will be fine. BUT you might have trouble piling her the next time. Sometimes I put the Metro inside a small piece of a Pill Pocket cat treat or soft treat of some sort. Then put it in the back of my cats throat.

I don't remember why she said for him to take the Metro, but I figure it can't hurt and should help him fight off any bugs that might be bothering him.

In 10 hours I have to give him the doses again.

I just...want this to work, like...right now.

I keep looking at him and going, 'go...go poop! then eat and drink!'

But it will take time...*antsy*
