I have a 6 month old kitty. The last time she was at the vets she weighed 5.4 lbs. that was about two weeks ago. Is that a normal weight for a kitty her age? I feel she is so skinny compared to some cats I see.

My cat River is almost a year old. I had never had a cat before and so I was very interested in this too when she was a kitten and did a lot of research online. Everything I found said they should be about 1 pound per month of age up until 6 months. So a 1 month old kitten would weigh 1 lb, 2 months, 2 lbs, etc. So your little girl sounds right on track. River was always smaller than she "should have" been according to those sites. Most normal adult cats weigh 8-12 pounds. America's cat have an obesity problem just like America's people. We just get so used to seeing big fat cats that the normal sized ones look small to us. At almost a year old, River weighs under 9 pounds and our male, Miles, weighs 10 pounds at the same age. But when I visit friend's houses I always think their cats are gigantic lol :)

There really isn't a correct number, it all depends on the cats body type. You should be able to tell by looking and feeling if your cats is a good weight for their size.
