So Parker ended up puking his guts up from the Clavamox he was on for his bladder infection. I went today and exchanged them for Baytril. I am to give him 1/2 a pill once a day. The receptionist told me to give it with food, however a few sites I am checking out about the drug say not to give with food. Which is it? lol I just don't want him puking again if I can avoid it.
Darling boy vomited all over my surge protector for my computer and fried it!

He seems to be doing a little better. He is no longer peeing outside of his litter box despite not having any medication in him for the last 4 days.

I always give medications to my cats with food, even if it's just a few treats. There is less risk of Parker getting sick from it if he takes it with food, which will coat his stomach lining. I couldn't find anything on the Internet that tells you how your cat should take it so I would just follow what my vet said. :) Good luck! :vibes:

None of the reputable sites I've just looked at speak to this at all, so my interpretation is that there's no "empty stomach" requirement. Because of that, and especially because Parker's vomiting with Clavamox, I'd be giving a little food first.

There are a few things to know, though:
Baytril must not be given orally within two hours of products containing calcium or aluminium (such as phosphorus binders) or iron (such as Pet Tinic), because they may inhibit absorption of the Baytril. Sucralfate must also be give separately from Baytril for the same reason. Drugs has some information about this.

Baytril may lower the seizure threshold, so may not be the best choice in cats with a tendency to have seizures.

He's not taking anything else, so I am safe there. I have yet to determine what's been causing the FHS symptoms he's been having for a couple years. As far as I know they are not seizures. Ok, thanks for the info.
I hope these ones work for my boo.

I have used it a few times and was told by different vets give with food.  I always use the clavamox pills in case I need to stop for some reason I have some back up meds.  The liquid used to give my cat issues puking.

What food is Parker eating?  The rxs will help fast is reason I ask.

Right now he's just eating Friskies canned. The only other food I had left is what the vet thinks gave him the infection. I'm sort of broke for the moment so I can't get anything else. I am not sure he actually swallowed the Baytril...it made him foam and drool like a 150lb Mastiff, the poor thing. Might have to see if I can get some pill pockets for him.
