Hello all!

I have a 4 year old cat named Mouse. I recently moved to another state and had her transported here by a pet transportation company. When she first arrived she was a bit frazzled; crying constantly for a couple hours. After she calmed down and realized who I was, I started noticing how unlike herself she seemed. The transportation people said she didn't cry or fight the whole 3 day trip which surprised me cause she'll meow the whole way to a vet visit and back.

She seems so lethargic; not moving much at all. She'll walk a few steps then plot down, lie down, and just stay there for hours. She never really liked to be picked up, but now she fights even harder about it and it's almost like it hurts to pick her up. So I just let her lie where she wants. Usually that's in the bathroom for most of the day. This is a cat who's normally full of energy and running around non-stop. She won't even acknowledge the toys I've bought for her though she normally goes crazy for things with feathers on them.

And what really has me worried is she won't eat. She nibbled on a few pieces of kibble her first day here (which was Monday July 9th) but that's it. Yesterday I gave her a bit of tuna. She gagged when she first smelled it, but later ate some of the juice. She ate at it a couple times that day but didn't eat the tuna fish, just the juice. Today she meowed at me until I gave her more tuna juice. I mixed it with a little of her kibble and again she just lapped up the juice. I'm glad she's finally eating something, but I would feel better if she ate something solid.

The final concern I have is of the size of her tummy. It's bulging out now and she looks pregnant! But she's spayed so I know that's not it. It's possible she might have just gained a lot of weight in my absence (I haven't seen her in over a month), but it seems so unnatural.

I know I should take her to the vet to be sure of what's going on, but I don't have the money for it yet. Hopefully soon. Meanwhile, I'm scared she's going to starve! I can keep giving her tuna juice, but will that be enough?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

First I'd like to say welcome to our site.

I wish I could offer you more advice than this but I'd say get her to a vet ASAP.  There are many vets that have different payment options if you don't have the money right away.

Take it from someone whose kitty is currently on a feeding tube--no eating means a very sick kitty very fast! Please try and get her in to see someone.

Well, I don't have a carrier with me in this state and I dont drive. So I will have for my roommate to get off from work get me to the pet store or walmart to get a carrier then to the vet. Lyndale avenue is about a 20 minute drive from here.

I'll do everything I can to get her to the vet, but these things are never easy when you have limited resources. A lot of the sites I found before coming here suggested she may just be depressed or having a hard time adjusting to her new surroundings so I was really trying to make her comfortable and help her transition to a new home. I didn't want to think the worst of things right from the start.

I would be afraid of some actual injury to her, or possibly she was drugged by the transport company.  You just never know!  Poor little girl...

You can use two laundry baskets, one turned upside down on another or tied together for a carrier.
