This is a cat forum... I don't know if many people know a lot about dogs too on here... I do... This looks to be an every day mutt... No particular breed.  Maybe a little bit of dalmation in him.  Hard to tell honestly.  I would need more details.  But, most pets out there today are mutts or moggies.  Dogs are more common to find purebreds in but a lot of "designer dogs" are popular now... Basically people are paying tons of money for a mutt.  I am sorry, that the absolute truth.  They get so mad about "mixed breed" being on their vet paperwork, but that's what they are... More than one breed.  They are not purebred aka one breed.  It's not the vet facilities fault they spent tons of money on a mixed breed!

First, where do you live? (Different breeds/mixes are more common in some areas)

Second, how big is this pup and how old do you think he/she is?

It's a very bad idea to pick a dog based only on looks (of course it's a factor but should not be a big factor). You're going to live with the dog for the next 10-15 years, so you want to choose a dog with a compatible temperment for your family. That being said, that dog doesn't look like any pure breed I know of. Just a cute little mutt :).

It's really hard to tell what mix they are when they're that young. If I had to guess though, I'd say maybe part Beagle but definitely a mutt.

I agree though, it's best to choose a dog based on what temperament, energy level, etc will fit in with your lifestyle rather than going by what is cute.

All puppies are cute.  Owning a dog is a much bigger ask than a cat - the time you have to put in training and housetraining them, walking them, and even for a cat-sized dog the vet is a lot more expensive.

It's hard to say what is in the mix.  The one picture looks like he doesn't have oversized paws so it probably won't become a large dog but that's about all I could say about it. A puppy really needs to be picked by temperament and energy level. Of course all puppies are hyper but some much more so than others but the main thing is rather they are timid, fearful or dominant. The best temperament is a puppy that is neither fearful or dominant because both needs extra work so they don't become biters.
