So, Lola is 4. Her normal behavior is she sleeps during the day(most days) and goes outside at night, she goes outside throughout the day as well and comes in to nibble once in a while. She normally loafs around on the couch or her other special spot.. 3 days ago, i noticed something wasn't right, so I've been watching her.. Her behavior has completely changed.. She is sleeping in a new spot(out in the open(not normal)), and she has practically slept for 3 days/nights straight! She goes potty outside, so she hasn't even gotten up for that.. Today I was worried so I started petting her(to see if I could feel any ticks or anything) and calming her, she has knots of hair(it's time to see the groomer), normally when I even get close to her back she bites(high Maintenance) and growls, she didn't even try to bite or swat at me and her growl was really raspy. Like she has pneumonia or something(That is not what I'm thinking just a reference). I gave her some tuna with hairball treatment in it, and she wouldn't even sniff it (she normally has it gone before I set the dish down). I had to pick her up to get her moving, she didn't want to move, she just sat there flicking her tail and growling. I must have annoyed her enough because she hesitantly went to the door, I let her out, she wasn't too keen on going out, but she went potty when she got out there. I don't know what could be wrong, is this normal? Could she have something really wrong with her? Could the heat be too much for her? I live in Michigan its been really hot & she is long haired? I just got her a rabies vaccine 2 weeks ago, she is spayed. I don't know what else to tell you. I know that going to the vet would be the logical thing to do... However, like so many others, I'm without a job and find it hard enough to even take myself to the doctor. My animals are my life, I would do anything for them within my capabilities. Please don't judge or be hurtful. Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

The heat can make them lethargic, but for your own peace of mind l would still take her for a check up. The matts in her fur could be irritating her as well so a good groom will help. Does she get a good cut when it's this hot, because l bet she feels great after it

I have scheduled an app. with the groomer for this thursday, this will be her first time actually getting shaved, before I just cut out the mats, but since she has a rabies vaccine now, I'm getting it done right.

Its cooler during the day, the hottest it gets is 80 degrees. I haven't seen her move(except to reposition herself), so unless she is drinking and eating at night, no. I imagine it could be cooler, but not the coolest spot. She chose to sleep on the carpet, instead of the vinyl flooring just 4 steps from her "new spot."

Ask the groomer to show you ongoing coat care as well, and what to use.  Most cats (unless they really cannot be groomed) can be kept mat-free but it can take a lot of time and hard work.

You really need to have her checked out by a vet. This is not normal behavior, even if it is hot. She's not eating/drinking, barely moving (lethargic), not going potty as she normally would, etc. She could have gotten into some poison, been bitten or otherwise attacked by another animal, fallen from a height, been hit by a car, have an infection--you just don't know unless she is seen by a vet. Kitties should not go over 24 hours without eating (I never let mine go more than 12-14 hours) because this is very detrimental to their health. Any of mine don't eat within my mentioned time span, I assist feed them with a dropper; they get much needed moisture this way too.

Paying for a vet: Please check out this link at TCS that gives information on finding help with paying for a vet visit: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/155462/cant-afford-a-vet-please-read.

This can easily end up an emergency situation if you don't get her to the vet ASAP.

oh, poor kitty!  It does sound like she needs to see a vet. About 6 yrs ago our 5 yr old kitty Chuckie stated acting similarly and everyone in my family keep saying, "It's just from the heat" but I knew something was wrong, took him to the vet and he was kept overnight and had to be PTS the next day, it was his liver....so, as others have aid it could be one of many things.

Believe me I know how hard it is with finances these days, I am in the same situation as you. Do you have any family or friends you can borrow from? Or will your vet let you pay in installments, most don't, but there are still a few who do.

Hope your kitty gets better.
