Hi! I'm hoping to be so lucky to catch some cat lovers in here who also have a clue to help me with my enormous problem.

I'll try to cut the story short:

I'm taking care of a friend's cat this week. I discovered a tick (?!) on the cat two days ago. I took it out carefully. The next day, some 20 hours later or so, there was blood on the bathroom floor and some very icky mass next to it. I took pictures since I had NO IDEA what it was (any idea as to where to post these pictures for free in here?!). The day after (today) more blood and an even larger icky mass next to it had come out. She seems fine, though. She eats, drinks, plays, sleeps, hunts and cuddles as usual. In spite of this I have a very bad feeling about this.

And now I am at a loss. I know for a fact that the cat never expresses pain (even though she in the past has suffered badly) and I am unsure as to what this mass is and how dangerous it is. It can be parts of the tick's "partners" inside of her, her intestates, unborn foetuses or something else for all I know :S I will take her to my vet ASAP if you can look at the pictures and say something like "It's definitely this and she's (probably) hurting badly."

Best case scenario, I removed the tick and whatever had been growing inside her for a long time has now come out and she will be fine. I'm hoping for this scenario but I'm fearful.

At the very least I hope to find someone in here who can help me :(

Sincerely,

Lise.

I found out how to upload pictures!

They're in chronological order. The fork is for size comparison and the pill on the left to the bug is a 100 microgram type of medicine called Eltroxin.

I'm taking her to the vet in an hour or so. I'm sad nobody has replied :S Wish us luck! :*

P.S. My avatar picture is the mass to have come out of my cat's body the latest. Any guesses? Other than stating that it doesn't look good? :O Now we're going to the vet.

I don't think a tick could cause bloody masses. Even without pictures it does sound like she needs to be seen by a vet asap.

I've set my avatar as the mass that has been expelled from my cat's body the latest. Any guesses other than stating that it doesn't look good? :O Now we're going to the vet.

Good luck at the vet. I think people have not posted because they do not know what to say. The mass looks like poo to me, though not notmal poo. Certainly not caused by a tick. Let us know what the vet says.

I'm not certain what that is, but does this cat ever go outside?  I have seen some of the ferals throw up stuff like this after they've had a furry snack that has disagreed with them.  It looks kind of like part of an undigested small animal.  Just a guess - hopefully thing go well at the vet - keep us updated & good luck!

Good luck at the vet. My first thought was that it looked like some furry animal insides. You mentioned she hunts so it seems possible.

Those look very much like small rodent entrails - especially delicious if one treads in them with bare feet!  Did you take a set to the vets?

Some cats seem to eat everything, I had one who would delicately spit out the gall bladder, yours appears to reject most of the entrails.

Since she obviously hunts her flea and worm control needs keeping up to date.

My initial reaction was it looks like intestines from a small animal the cat had caught. I hope you get some answers from the vet, and do please update us.

I'm sorry it took a while for people to respond. The most active time on the forums seems to be Eastern Standard Time in the US, so sometimes when people post it can take a while for replies if they're outside of that zone.

If she's been outside recently, my guess is bunny guts (or gopher guts, etc.--whatever she likes to eat). I had a cat who hunted and he would sometimes hack up bunny guts. . .ewwww!

If she hasn't been outside recently, I'd be pretty alarmed. Unless you have mice inside.

Hope the vet can figure it out!

Hi everyone :)

No need to worry :) Like many of you already guessed, the mass was intestates from a small, furry animal, a mouse to be exact ;)

So my darling is fine, yay :D And on top of that, the vet didn't even charge me for the consultation! So very difficult to believe in a country like mine and particularly on Friday the 13th! ;) Now the myth has finally been proven not true ;)

Thnx for all of your brilliant input - it proved to be of no influence that all of your replies came at a later point in time :)

Lots of love,

Lise.

I've been following this thread since the original post, didn't reply though because I had no idea what it was.
Good to see everything's okay though! So happy kitty is fine.

Thank you, the pair of you! :) Compassionate people are in low stock these days ;)

I had my neighbour drive me to the appointment with the vet but I sent him home since we could risk waiting for several hours. People were glad, though when I notified them via phone afterwards :)

Happy purring to you ;)
