Today I was inspecting my Mal's toenails, and I noticed something funny on one of them - it looks like the claw has split in half lengthwise, or that it's growing at two separate rates.  There's part of the claw, and then there's side portion that's loosely attached to the rest of the claw, like it split off.  It's not a husk, it's definitely part of the nail itself.  It's just like the nail split in half.  Does that make any sense?  :/

There's no bleeding, but it is sensitive - if I touch the loose part, she moans.  She isn't limping, doesn't seem in pain, is eating fine.  I am going to call my vet tomorrow AM to schedule an appointment, which will probably be Saturday or Monday, but has anyone else noticed something like this?  Is it pretty straightforward to handle?

It sounds like it's the old nail in the process of coming off to me?. I know mine have had them still attached, but i've left them alone and usually they pull them off themselves when their cleaning their toes
