Khaleesi had her first ever shot today, the FVRCP at around 3:30pm. Its now 9am and she seems to feeling really awful, not playful and worse of all she is crying when I pick her up. It doesn't sound like she is in pain, just almost like she feels so yucky she doesn't want me handling her. I was so nervous about giving her the shot anyways, since I dislike vaccinations...and now she seems to be feeling so horrid after!  Her shoulder is a bit puffy where she got the shot, and also not sure if it matters but they gave her dewormer even though she had a negative fecal test and wormer 3 weeks ago. Not sure why they did, but I wasn't given the option they just came back in with her saying "She took the shot like a champ and had some dewormer"

Is this normal? I mean she is usually such a ball of energy and to see her so down and not even wanting to be touched is making me want to cry.

I don't know what FVRCP is, hopefully just the 3 in 1 shot. Not unusual for some kittens to be a little flat after being vaccinated. Have never had a kitten be tender or swollen at the site.

I would not be impressed with a vet doing anything to my cats without permission though, my cats don't leave me when we're at the vets. For all they know you could have just wormed her yourself.

Yes the FVRCP is the 3 in 1. (FVR= Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, C= Calicivirus, and P= Panleukopenia just incase anyone was wondering)

Penelope and Delilah just had their first vaccines yesterday. Being sleepy and kinda yucky feeling afterwards is normal. She should be back to normal by tomorrow. I have never had a kitten have tenderness or swelling afterwards, and Penelope was even trying to squirm when she got hers. Mine also get theirs in the thigh not the shoulder. My vet always does vaccines with me in the room, they only leave the room with my permission anyways, even if they just want to take Delilah in the back to say hi to everybody. As far as deworming, my vet gives mine with kitten shots, mine have actually been dewormed a few times before they started their shots. It is pretty much standard, but I am sure if you told them you didn't want her to be dewormed they would not have a problem with that.

CALL THE VET!!  The crying is NOT a normal reaction and she could be reacting negatively to it.

:yeah: Typical kitten series shot. OH I am sorry about your kitten. It is pretty common for them to be out of it and very sore near the injection site. Poor baby. :rub: I would call the vet right away though today and report her symptoms. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for Khaleesi :vibes:

I did call the vet and they said it was normal for them to be irritable and sleepy afterwards, but I hated to see it. She is back to normal now, however the idea of having this done again in 3 weeks is not making me excited
