:lol3: Yep! You read that right!

We were stuck in a line of traffic moving very slowly - assumed it was construction up the road (you know, where they close one side of the road on those country semi-highways). When we got to the "front" of the "traffic jam" it was a police car following an emu that was wandering up the side of the road. (He thought it was an ostrich).

There are a number of farms around here with things like Ostrich, Llamas, and Alpaca... even here in the farm associated with the RV park, there are peacocks and guinea fowl ... but no emu. :lol3:

We'd noticed an RV up the road pulled over in a small mall - there was a trailer in the back (small) - like a really small horse trailer. One of the doors was open. The guy had one of the compartments open, and was on his back underneath the RV, working on it. We thought that MAYBE the emu was his and somehow got out -and he didn't know it? So we informed the officer following the emu. We also know a rescue org that rescues farm animals. We figured if the emu wasn't that guy's, they might be able to help until Mr. Emu's owner could be located. (I assume it's a rather valuable animal here? :dk: ).

The officer asked us to call the State Troopers to let them know about the rescue organization and give them the phone number. In the meantime, he called in the info about the RV. I guess they dispatched a car to go talk to the guy.

The State Troopers on the phone were really nice, and took the info. They called back later to thank us. Apparently the emu did belong to the guy in the RV, and everyone was grateful we'd noticed. I'm not sure how they got the emu BACK there - he'd made it a couple of miles down the road. :lol3:

I didn't think to take a picture. :anon:

Interesting traffic jam! :lol3:

ha ha that's so funny (and cool you got the big guy back where he was supposed to go - I mean how exactly do you "herd" an emu?)

That's so cool! Too bad you didn't take any pictures that would have been interesting to see. Good thing you noticed the guy with the RV or who knows how long it would have taken to find where he belonged.

:lol3: Pretty funny, Laurie !!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess your rescue efforts have no limitations! :D :lol2: Good thinking on the RV guy. I guess they needed an Emu wrangler to get him home. All ends well then!:clap::clap::clap::clap:

Wow! How awesome!  So glad you were there to help the emu find his owner. I shudder to think what would have happened if the police and you hadn't shown up.

How wonderful you were able to help this emu..though you would think the guy would have noticed he'd "lost" it

Yeah, I don't know what happened - or how it could have happened. But he was on his back underneath the RV, working on something, so if he'd gotten something out of the trailer, maybe, and the door wasn't shut properly... concentrating on what he was doing would be all it took, I guess. :dk:

It's a good thing that one was fairly friendly. I had a friend in NC that was going to raise them, but one of the big males took a dislike to him and attacked him several times. He would have to get someone to distract it when he went to the barn or it would chase him and kick at him.
