I don't mean to post multiple threads but figured I might get more answers if I posted a seperate thread from my main one for this one question. Khaleesi, my Maine Coon/Siamese cross makes a very cute and very sweet noise when she starts purring, its like a coo. Its only for the first 3 or four purrs then she mellows into a normal kitten purr. I was wondering if it had a name, if it is usual for MC or Meezers...or neither! Enjoy, the 'coo' is at :23

It sounded like a little soft trill to me.  My Russian boy makes a similar sound.

I don't breed Coonies or Orientals but it sounded like a normal kitty trill to me
I'm sure OrientlalSlave will be able to let you now if it's a specific breed thing, but my kitties do it when excited.

My Orientals don't make it, neither do my friend's Siamese - or at least I've not heard them doing it except when 'talking' to kittens and they make all sorts of interesting noises then.

Yes, cats can have many sounds if they need. Talking to kittens is one example. Another example is when courting. I remember when our oldest resident had his first wife on visit. Although being young and inexperienced he knew he was supposed to do something, although he wasnt sure what and how.

And she wasnt cooperative although in heat.

Oh, so many sounds did come out of him!  (I had NO idea whatever there were SO many different sweet sounds in a cat!)  So many tactics did he tried! He tried everything but a rape.  In wain poor chap, this time.  But next time she come, he / they did succeed.

His gentleness and his multitude of sweet sounds helped a lot, together with some decidive steps.  :)

Old memory awakes.   :)

And yet it was not all sounds he could. Several time we got awake in the deep of the night by the deep bellows of a deer bull. Him again.

Several times he did hiss terribly at foreign cats who did dared to cross our yard outside his enclosure both as stud and as neuter.

Memories....

ps.  And kittens?  They dont always know from beginning how to meow. So they try to use other sounds instead.

I just found it odd since its not separate from her purr but rather part of it like an extra higher 'note' in each purr right in the beginning. I have heard her make trills at her toys before and her normal trills are different, lower toned. Its very funny, she is a very talkative girl with an ever expanding vocabulary! I know for sure she is half Siamese but the dad is kinda a "who knows" since he was supposedly Maine Coon but I saw no evidence of it in any of the kittens or in Khaleesi besides her trills, but then again regular DSH cats do that too!

Hmmm, I haven't heard my Maine Coon do that, that I can think of. One of my other cats (he's a feral rescue DSH) makes a similar noise sometimes though, it's usually if he opens his mouth slightly while he's purring, then it causes the purring to suddenly become more high-pitched at the beginning (during inward breaths).

It's cute though, sounds like she needs some "oiling" (like a squeaky wheel hehe...)

It's not like a common Siamese thing, in my experience....but they do have an incredible repertoire of sounds. But I have heard somewhat similar trilly sounds from a Burmese though. ( LOL NOT that I'm saying she's part Burm! )

Better video of her doing it. I woke up to a little black kitten walking on me this morning purring like this!
