The furniture company just left....with my new sofa!

Apparently it won't fit into the elevator; it's too long.

It was a special order for the leather colour. I have a call into the sales guy at the store.

The couch I had before was a 3 cushion couch and fit into the elevator.  Apparently this leather one is longer.

I'm heart broken :(

EDIT:

I can't believe I'm crying :(  I wanted that sofa so much.

I got a call from the sales guy. The manager said that I could go down and pick something else out. Or I could go with a reclining sofa because they can come apart and be put back together. I told him I didn't want a reclining sofa.  So I guess I'll go there in 2 weeks and pick out something else. The thing is it will be about 6 to 8 weeks for it to be recovered in the leather I want.

How disappointing for you! I'm sorry you don't have your lovely new couch. Maybe there is something

similar but a bit smaller?

Are you in a high rise?  I thought they had to have stairs too?  We had to move a few things by steps as the elevator at grandmas was not for big stuff and the cargo elevator for move in/outs was being worked on.

I am in an apartment. I live on the 7th floor, and they refused to bring it up the stairs.

I'm going back on Saturday to try out some other couches.  I wanted something that you melt into when you sit, and the one I picked out was the most comfortable.

Surely they have to have stairs. Even the tallest buildings in the US have stairs. Elevators only is an enormous hazard in a fire.

ETA -- posted at the same time as you. How ridiculous!!! You could probably pay a moving company to do it for cheap.

Labour laws here forbid workers from having to climb more than 3 flights of stairs .  That was the issue with the furniture company. They would climb 3 flights, but not anymore.

If it would fit for sure what about hiring a few 20 yearolds?

I understand we haven't had a couch besides futons.  Chair is comfortable but we fight over it lol.

I doubt I'd find a moving company that would do it because of the labour laws and the stair flight limitations. I venture a good guess that if I did find a company that would do it, it would cost a couple hundred dollars or more, because they would have to go pick up the couch across the city, bring it back and haul it up 7 flights of stairs.

I'm just going to go and pick something else out.  Even if I did get it into the apartment, if I moved I would have to have it taken out down the stairs. Most professional movers won't do that many flights of stairs.

What a bummer! Over here a company can charge extra for having to deliver something to the 4th floor or higher, but there's no law against it.

I've been giving this some long thought!

When I picked out this couch it was after I had sat on every single couch in their store. And I mean every single one!  Some I sat on more than once just to compare and to make sure.  After over a grueling hour and several trips back to this couch, I picked it!  It was my dream couch. It was by far the most comfortable one.

Plus I love the style. It's so me! It's a clean looking design and doesn't look bulky, and it sits low to the ground so no kitty toys can get lost under it.

Since the couch won't fit into the elevator, I'm going to go with the love seat.  I have a love seat now, but I wanted something longer so it could sit one more person, but a love seat will be ok.  I'll have the rocker recliner, my office chair and 4 kitchen chairs.

I'm going to go on Saturday. I don't know if they have one in stock with the leather I want or if it will be another 6 week wait. If it will be 6 weeks, I'll get the chair delivered now and wait on the love seat.

First though I have to measure the elevator height and width just to make sure.
