Update - Diamond Pet Food Recall - 7/6/12

An update on the Diamond recall.  I've read several articles on the update but thought I'd post an excerpt on this one.  The SC plant has not passed inspection.  We haven't heard the last of this yet but at least it's not been on the mammoth scale of the 2007 recalls.

    As a follow up to my article a few weeks ago on all the Diamond Pet Food recalls, I wanted to let readers know the results of the FDA’s inspection of the Diamond plant in Gaston, South Carolina.

    It will come as no surprise that the FDA inspection in April revealed conditions and practices that could have led to salmonella contamination of pet food products manufactured at the Gaston plant.

    The FDA found that “… the plant had not taken all reasonable precautions to ensure that production procedures do not contribute to contamination and that the equipment used to convey the food does not protect against contamination.”

My neighbor just resumed feeding Chicken Soup for the Soul to her two cats, should I tell her to keep them off it for a while longer? If it was me, I'd stay as far away from Diamond products as possible, for a long time..

I had already heard about the inspection in April, but what's the latest news? Has the plant re-opened? Did they do a re-inspection?

ETA: OK, the page finally loaded for me. The plant did re-open, back in May, presumably after they passed some kind of process to re-open. What's the update? Why are the telling us about the April inspection now, in July?

I'm telling you because the plant has reopened.  It is not common knowledge and this was just put out yesterday and there are details in this report that had been left out of others.  I will no longer waste my time posting updates since you seem to know everything well ahead of time.

No, no, it's good to post the updates . I didn't mean to make you think it wasn't appreciated. I just wondered if I was missing something. I had seen that info already, back in late May/early June, and I thought everybody had seen it. Apparently not, though! Sorry.
