Any Way To Tell How Close She Is?

I work with a rescue and have been fostering kittens for a while now.  We just picked up a pregnant cat from a shelter and was told she would be ready to give birth any day now.  I can feel lumps in her belly but her belly is still a little squishy.  Does it get pretty solid at the end?  She is VERY loving and sweet.  Not sure if that's just her personality or if it's because she's at the end.

Any way to tell how close she is to giving birth?

If you need any other shots, let me know.

Sorry can't answer your questions, am in the same position, only never been around a pregnant cat.

My friend (very experienced cat owner) and I (neophyte) are co-fostering a pregnant cat.

Originally we thought she was going to deliver in a day or two because her sides were so big.  Then they got smaller so we thought the kittens were dropping into the birth canal.  Turned out that the reason her sides didn't appear so big is because she's gained some much needed weight so she is not all belly.

I can tell you that her nipples aren't as prominent as those in your pictures.

I will be following this thread closely!

I'm so confused by it.  I can feel the babies in there, but I'm not seeing/feeling them move around like you're supposed to.  I can't catch her sleeping though to watch her belly since she loves affection so much she gets up when I go in the room.

We were hoping it would be soon because we just got a call about some other kittens who were just born that we need to take.  We were hoping to add them to this litter and have the mom be a surrogate for them.

I finally caught her lying down without her getting up.  I put my hand over her belly and held it there and I could feel the babies move.  So maybe not too much longer?

That generally means that you're in the last two weeks, but she's definatly huge! Could be any day now...

Watch for signs of her going into labor such as nesting, small appetite, etc.

Good luck!

We woke up to vomit all over the bathroom this morning.  I smelled it, so I know it wasn't diarrhea.  She also peed and pooped in her box, but I'm not sure if the door to the litter box accidently got closed by my husband or not.

Is vomiting normal at the end?

She isn't eating today and I just took her temp and it's 99.3.  She's been lying on my bed all day.  Looks like we'll have kittens soon!

My girls don't vomit but it's not unheard of

Sounds like it won't be much longer, please don't stress her with temperature taking

She had her kittens this morning.  She was very quiet about it.  My husband got up and found mama and 3 kittens in the litter box.  Poor things were completely covered in litter with the cord and placenta still attached.  I was able to move mama and babies back to the box and she had 4 more.  She has 7 as of now.  After talking to the vet, I cut the cord on them.  We have a camera there on mama and she's still licking her bottom, so I wonder if she had another.  She's going to be one busy mama!

Here is mom with the kittens

And here is a close up of all 7 kittens.  You can actually see a part of each of them in this picture, instead of a couple being under the others.

Poor mama is still a mess.  She's slowly starting to clean herself up.  She's still covered in litter and goop, but she's done a pretty good job of cleaning the kittens off.  Poor thing is so tired!  She's been sleeping most of the day and then wakes up to clean herself and the kittens.  They've all been nursing all day as well.  YAY!

Very clever putting the numbers on the kittens!  If she is OK about it I'd be tempted to use a damp flannel to clean her up a bit, especially to get the litter out of her coat.  I would take her collar off for now as well - she won't be going out for some time, hate to think of a little limb getting caught in it.  If she will let you weigh them...

I'll try to clean her up.  She's been very sweet and letting me come in and out quietly. I stop and pet her gently to know I'm still her friend and there to help.  She doesn't mind me being around the kittens so I will get a weigh on them as soon as another foster brings my scale back this evening.

Good call on the collar, I'll take that off of her.
