I have an almost nine week old kitten. She had some issues a few weeks ago that the doctor said was due to a bacterial infection from switching from kmr to kitten food. She was dealing with diarrhea. She's been on antibiotics and probiotics since then. The diarrhea stopped and she seems fine otherwise but sometimes she has little pieces of poo escape. Mostly it's while she is sleeping, but occasionally it's while she is running around playing. She doesn't have to use the litter box when I try to put her in it at these times, so it's just a small random piece. She was eating a mix of royal canin wet food and kitten chow dry but I haven't been giving her the wet food mixed in recently. I'm going to stop the probiotics for a few days and also go back to adding the wet food to the kitten chow, but I'm not sure if this will help. It doesn't happen every day but sometimes it happens five or six times.. Her last fecal test showed negative for worms, she did have fleas, but I think they are gone now after some treatment and cleaning. I'm going to ask the vet about it when I go in for her second round of shots, but I'd like to know what I can do now to prevent messes. If anyone has any knowledge or experience with this please let me know.

Oh, and she's drinking a lot, and eating normally it seems. She's very active, especially at night.

Hi biscuit55. Welcome to TCS:wavey:

Bumping this thread up since it looks like it got lost in the shuffle. How is your kitten doing now? Have you had her to the vet yet?

Welcome to TCS...sorry this didn't get seen sooner!

Are they hard pieces?  My Mooch does that when she is getting on the constipated side.  In the past I've had to give her medication from the vet for it.  Our vet said watch her water intake too.  Mooch does better with moving water; so we have one of those fountains for her to drink from.

Hope your kitty is doing better now!

When my Pipsqueak was a kitten he had the same troubles. Bouts of diarrhea and at times fecal incontinence. He would drop poops and leak constantly. He was dewormed and rechecked and everything kept coming back negative. My vet told me about Tritrichomonas Feotus http://www.fabcats.org/breeders/infosheets/tritrichomonas.html We had to do two different fecal sensitivity culture tests to get the diagnosis. Expensive :sigh: BUT you could also treat under the presumption of the infection too. I am not saying this is what your cat has and by all means, I would run this past your vet. IF it is, treating with Ronizadole for four weeks straight will eradicate the parasite - but your vet will confirm all of this. He might not even think that is it. A lot of kittens get diarrhea but it is the fecal incontinence that struck me to post this to you. Keep us updated!!!!! Loads of these to you and your kitty :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

In the UK Ronizadole isn't licensed for use in cats, and there are hoops to jump through.  Not sure what the situation is in the US.

Things cleared up after the vet recommended taking her off of the antibiotics early. She still is having gas - she won't eat her Innova or Wellness Core without some of the kitten chow sprinkled on top or wet food thrown in - but it is becoming rare and I'm hoping some more probiotics might clear it up in a few days. No little droppings since around two days after stopping the antibiotics, so I'm guessing they were upsetting her tummy. She is doing great now, though, and thank you for all of the ideas. I was concerned about worms, so I'm hoping to get her on some Revolution next month. I'm not sure if that would help with the parasite thing mentioned, Tritrichomonas Feotus? That doesn't sound good. If her diarrhea pops back up, I may look into that.
