My cat died of kidney disease perhaps stage 3 or 4. Could someone here give blood test results that are real bad. Just curious.  I have researched everything. Plus there are other factors. Cat being a stray for 11 years or so, having abscesses and other issues, But to be tnr  4  months ago(March) seemed fine and very happy but to lose over 2 pounds from March till july. Then to become extremely affectionate after never being petted in 11 years. I have his blood work. I know alot about BUN and creat levels. Just curious what really bad levels are that would make it difficult for a comeback. He was put down a few days ago but trying to understand all the bloodwork and get outside thoughts on it. Thanks

I'm so sorry for your loss, hon! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Kidney disease (more commonly known as chronic renal failure, or CRF) is awful, many TCS members have lost kitties from it. My cat Candy had early CRF and lymphoma in her kidney. Here are some helpful websites to help you understand chronic renal failure a bit better: http://www.felinecrf.com/, http://www.felinecrf.org/, http://www.fabcats.org/owners/kidney/crf.html, and http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Feline-CRF-Support/.

A cat with chronic renal failure will have elevated calcium and phosphorous levels. BUN will be increased, potassium will be low. Normal BUN levels are from 14 - 36 MG/DL, normal creatinine levels are from .6 - 2.4 MG/DL, normal calcium levels are from 8.2 - 10.8 MG/DL, normal phosphorus levels are from 2.4 - 8.2 MG/DL, normal potassium levels are from 3.4 - 5.6 MEQ/L and normal sodium levels are from 145 - 158 MEQ/L.
I got all the information in the above paragraph from www.felinecrf.com, didn't quote it though because I put it in my own words instead of using their chart. ^^

http://www.felinecrf.org/diagnosis_blood_chemistry.htm - this website explains feline blood chemistry perfectly!

Just so you know, there is a candle ceremony every Monday night at 10pm (eastern time) at www.petloss.com (in the chatroom). I found a lot of support there as well as TCS when I lost my Candy. I'm in their chatroom every night to help others, as well.

Hope I helped. So so sorry for your loss. :hugs:
Jen.

I read the most important number is the BUN, but don't know why.

Whether it is too late to help a cat or not has nothing to do with numbers. CRF is incurable and progressive, so the purpose of treatment is improving a cat's quality of life while postponing death. What the numbers do tell you is how much closer to death your kitty is.
