What type of vaccum do you have? What do you like or not like about it? Does anyone have one of the Dyson Animal vaccums? I searched through over 90 reviews online about them and only found about 5-10 poor reviews, meaning under 3 stars out of 5. Everyone else was raving about it but I just cant believe its that good, especially with the pricetag!
Anyone know where its selling for less than the current $500?

I too have a Kirby, a G5, however I bought mine used on E-Bay for about $240. It's a little scratched but still runs 10 times better than any other Vacuum, nothing else can even compare to the suction of a Kirby.

Don't have a Dyson, so no help on that.

I currently have a Hoover WindTunnel TurboPower 7500. I did some extensive research back then, and I had narrowed down my other choice, which was the Miele line.

Pros:

- Extremely powerful, sucks all the cat hair out of the carpets and upholstery.
- Additional 25 ft hose that reaches all the way up the stairs without me lugging it around.
- Extra long extension cord.
- Carpet/Hard surface switch. Tall/med/sm carpet height switch.
- Self-propelling.
- Full bag indication.
- Bagged. My friend has a bagless, and always complained of the dust floating everywhere during emptying.

Cons:

- Cheaper-made than older Hoovers I've had. I can see a distinct decline in quality. I used to always like Hoover, after this I'm looking elsewhere. Examples: 1st day the surface switch broke right off. Now the self-propel is broken, I'm getting a burned motor smell and it doesn't rotate.

Will add other cons when I can remember them.

I've never heard of that vacuum. I have a cheapo Hoover but I have wood floors through my house. So I really only have a couple of large area rugs to vacuum.

I have a Sanitaire. I ordered it on-line, its considered a commercial vacuum. It adjusts to wood or carpet, has a handle that folds for easy storage and is lightweight, great for me with Arthritis.
I had a Phantom before this one and I loved it however it did not last but a few years, and Phantom is now out of business.

Hi mamacat

We bought a dyson about a month ago - it is the latest one out here in Australia and cost $800. Yes that is an awful lot of money for a vacuum cleaner but I used to get so depressed after vacuuming with my old hoover - the carpet used to almost look dirtier when I had finished...

The dyson is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FANTASTIC!! The dirt is has sucked up almost makes me sick - I tried to be a clean person but good lord the crud this thing picked up! My hubby and I are having a love affair with it. We actually fight over who gets to vacuum. I have vacuumed the walls, the roof (we have a split-level house with very high cobwebby ceilings) - the house has never been cleaner!

The other thing is that it is really really user friendly - everything clicks on and off and it is easy to empty and no bags is good as far as I am concerned. The second time we vacuumed the cats areas it looked like we had sucked up a whole brown and blue cat, there was so much hair in the barrel.

Do you know I think that this is my longest post on TCS so far, that should prove how fantastic I think dyson's are.

I highly recommend one to you mamacat - well worth the investment and most of it is guaranteed for life.

I have attached a pic of the one we bought - it was the top of the line with 12 cyclones and a head for carpet and another for wood (as we have both wood and carpeted floors).

OK OK that's enough from me...

There's no place like home
I have a Simplicity upright (expensive like the Kirby's) and a Kenmore canister. I use the Kenmore on my wood floors and the Simplicity on the carpet. The Simplicity has great suction and pulls the hair right up. Also great during flea season out here, as it will get thru the carpet into the mat below. The Kenmore has a quick release handle so you can get the hair out of the cracks and crevices very easily.

I had a Hoover windtunnel and hated it (just gave it away last week). It did OK on carpet, but you couldn't turn off the beater bar when you did bare floors, so it just thru things like litter crumbs back towards your feet rather than suctioning them up.

LOL - just realized that I described the quality of my vacuum cleaners based on how well they pick up the cat fallout.....

I have a used Hoover upright, and don't remember what I payed for it. I like it, but there are probably others just as good. I do prefer an upright over a canister.

We have a Eureka Enviro Vac with a Hepa Filter, whatever that is??? To be honest, I am not much of a vacuumer and can't really tell the difference but it seems to work pretty well. It's an upright, but it has a detachable hose so we can get the furniture and the cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling, etc. It works for us.
