My precious kitty, Hooter, is about 10 to 12 years old and just had a rabies vaccine along with the feline vaccine.  She has been lethargic ever since, just laying around, not her usual 90-mile-an-hour self.  She looks despondent and I am so sad about it.  This is the 4th of July and our town does neighborhood fireworks.  I don't know what to do.  She ate a little today, very little.  Will this go away?  She has not had any shots in about 5 years due to financial difficulty but since she is an in/out cat, and we have had an outbreak of bats and squirrels with rabies in our area, I thought it best to get her vaccinated.  Any help on what to do would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I sent you a PM. Cookie had a similar problem to this, she was very lethargic and wouldn't get up to eat or drink for a few days after her Rabies shot. It ended up going away after a few days, but I did call my vet and she said it was absolutely normal.

It's certainly not unusual for a cat to lay low for a day or 2 after a rabies vax. Mention it to your vet, but it's probably nothing to worry about unless it carries on for much longer.

One question, what do you mean by "the feline vaccine"? Do you know specifically what that was? In the future, I wouldn't get any other vaccines at the same time as the rabies one - it can be too much stress on a cat's immune system to have to deal with all that. Also, depending on where you live, the only vax mandated by law is rabies. A senior kitty like yours probably has life-long immunity to most of the other diseases and really doesn't need further vaccinating if it isn't a legal requirement.
