Hello! I'm new and my first post is one asking for help, but I'm honestly not sure where to turn at this point!

So the facts: My cat went missing (escaped somehow? probably when my sister took *her* cat to the vet) on Tuesday afternoon. I was at work then, and didn't get home until very very late, so I didn't notice her missing until Wednesday morning. I had to go to work, but my sister spent a couple of hours wandering around calling for her and talking to people.  I haven't seen hide nor hair of her since then, and none of my neighbors (I live in an apartment complex) have seen her either.  We've lived here for about a year, but she's never been outside here. However, she's not purely an inside cat, as she's spent a lot of time at my parents' house, where she's allowed to wander a bit. She's a very sociable animal.

On Wednesday, my sister found one person who said they saw her- back on the day she escaped, they saw her get into a fight with another cat and get chased further down the street and into another yard (about block down from us, but right near the corner where our relatively quiet street intersects with a busy 4 lane road). So we wandered around calling for her, putting up fliers, and talking to people. No luck, and she did not return home. The food I left out remained uneaten. But, talking to the neighbors a bit more, I think I figured out what happened: there is apparently a very aggressive stray that lives in the complex across the street (or at the river- the complex backs into the river) but who is very possessive of our courtyard as well, and chases away other cats. I believe this is the cat that may have chased her.

Then, today, I was talking to some of the people who live in one of the mini duplexes down near where my cat was last seen (on Tuesday). They said they saw her Friday night, right outside their door, but she ran the moment they got up to check if it was one of their cats. I also ran into some kids who said they saw her on Saturday down near the river (they said "in" but I'm pretty sure they didn't mean it literally) near a big empty lot (coincidentally one that borders the complex the stray lives in). Supposedly there are a lot of cats down there, but I haven't seen any.

So the good news is that she's probably still alive. And she's still vaguely in the area. But I have *no* idea what to do now. I've handed out fliers, I've posted fliers,  I walk around every night calling her, I sat out near the corner she was first seen on and call her and shake a cup of food.

Is there a next step from here? I keep hoping she'll get brave enough to come back herself, regardless of the stray, but I'm not sure she knows that this *is* "home". Plus, I still haven't seen her for myself. Hopefully she's still in the area- we're bordered by the river and that busy road, but the river has a little bridge (albeit one that's a fairly busy little road), and the big busy road turns into an overpass over the river, so if you walk down towards the river, you can get to the "other side" of the road without actually crossing it.

Help! Any advice would be appreciated. I'm going a little crazy with all this  It feels like finding a needle in a haystack:(

I would contact the local shelters and try calling your local radio station maybe they can help too.  I hope your kitty comes home safe & sound. Best wishes

Christine

Thank you! I've been checking the shelter, but no luck. They're trying pretty hard to avoid picking up cats, actually- they're full. But they have an awesome website with photos of every animal that comes in.

I know my cat really hasn't left the area- my sister saw her last night behind our building- but she just won't come home.

AW I am so sorry about your kitty but the good news is that she has been seen in the area. Try putting out her litter box, her favorite bed, favorite food, bowls and worn t-shirt from yourself near the bed. Hopefully she will smell these items and stay closer to your home so you can get her inside. Here are a couple of articles that might help. I hope you find her very soon. :cross: :vibes::vibes:
