Two kittens, only one seems to grow...?

So I've had Koopa and Pepsi for 2 weeks now, and they are by the vet's estimate 5-6 weeks old.  I don't have a scale at home, so I can't confirm this as of yet, but it really seems to me that only Pepsi is growing.  They were both terribly tiny and malnourished and Koopa was definitely the worse for wear and the runt of the litter.  We almost lost him, but after a week we took them to the vet and he said they were doing fine and we should keep doing what we were doing since they were doing well under our care.  A week ago, Koopa was 8 ounces and Pepsi was 12 ounces.

In the last week, they've been mowing down on the soft kitten food and formula, and both have been trying out the dry food.  They get free access to food because of their previous malnutrition.  Koopa has become much more kitten-like (when we first got him, he just wanted to sleep and be held, had NO interest in playing like his brother).  They stalk each other, wrestle, chase toys, etc.

Here's my concern (I will try to post pictures later today to show what I'm observing)...Pepsi has gotten noticeably bigger - not just his belly, but his entire structure.  He weighs more which I can tell when I pick him up, but he's also longer, his head is larger and less delicate looking and he appears positively gigantic next to Koopa.  When we first got them, they were both tiny but Pepsi wasn't too much larger than Koopa.  Stronger looking, but not overwhelmingly bigger.  Koopa, on the other hand, has filled out a little, has a little more weight to him but still is slim.  He doesn't appear to have grown in any other fashion, though.  His head is SO tiny compared to his brothers, which you can really tell when they're playing.  He doesn't appear to have gotten any longer, and his bones seem awfully fragile still...you know how very young kittens seem like their bones are like bird bones?  Hopefully that makes sense.

So - vet says boys are healthy, congratulated us on saving Koopa because he surely would have died without the every 2 hour bottle feedings.  Koopa is playing a lot more, seems perky and attentive, has normal poos, is getting KMR and the nutri-cat liquid stuff in addition to the soft food they're both eating, seems strong for his size, as coordinated as his brother (he was very wobbly for a while because he was so weak), and overall seems just as healthy as Pepsi, albeit on the slim side.  But either Pepsi is growing at a WAY faster rate, like abnormally fast, or Koopa seems to literally not be growing at all!  I will try to upload pics later, and I will call the vet if it continues, but has anyone experienced this?

Sometimes when a kitten gets a weak start at life it stunts their growth. An example of this is one of the members CatnamedPanda who has two sister kittens right now, one who got very sick and weak for a while- now the one that was healthier of the two is still about twice the size of the younger even though they are both recovered and eating well, etc. So don't stress it too much! He just has a little catching up to do.

Still you do need a scale. Surely some of your neighbours do have.  If you ask them and explain the need, they will surely lend, even if you normally dont talk much with each other.

So is the human psychology.

Make sure it takes in gramms, or at least, 1/10 ounce.

Good luck!

Agree a scale is a must, digital kitchen scales are inexpensive.

Assume they've had their first dose of wormer? I'd feed Hills A/D to the little one for a week or so, it's higher calorie and can make a big difference in struggling kittens along with pet nutri drops - just a few drops a day mixed into the formula.

I wouldn't worry too much. Like clynn said I have two sisters who are very small for their age. Delilah got very sick to the point she almost died while Penelope got stronger. Penelope is HUGE in comparison to Delilah. It took a while for Delilah to start growing again for a while she was putting on weight just very slowly. I don't have a good scale to weigh them with right now so I was taking them in to the vet to be weighed every so often. They don't mind at all, the receptionist would always just bring them in the back quickly. Delilah had always gained but it was very little, like only half an ounce. Now that she has been on the mend for a while and eating well she is starting to pick up the pace of growth. I know what  you mean by his bones feel weak. For the longest time I would pick up Delilah and feel like she was just going to snap in my hands. I'm sure in a few more weeks you wont be saying that any more. I wouldn't worry too much about his overall size just his health. At 14 weeks my girls are way under weight weighing in at 1lb 6oz and 2lb 3oz, but that is a long way from 7 weeks old and 6oz and 7oz.

What kind of wet kitten food are you feeding them? Like missymotus said I would recommend feeding them Hills a/d, you will have to buy it from your vet. Sounds like you are doing good giving them formula and a supplement as well. I would feed him the wet several times a day, my girls still eat at least 4 times a day now, but for a while, especially when Delilah was still very weak, they were offered food every few hours.
