I just got a new kitten and im worried about this heat wave coming through. I dont have an air conditioner but will have fans running for him, with food and water of corse. Will kitty be OK or do i need to buy an air conditioner?

I think he should be okay.  My ac only cools my top floor condo to around 88 on days like today (heat index 110) and Ritz is okay.  She's not real active as to be expected, but not panting.  I have ceiling fans going 24x7 and portable fans running when I'm home.

You cat might also decide to lay down on ceramic (bathtub) or tile flooring.

If you have access to marble (cutting board?), you could set this on carpet or tile floor; marble for what ever technical reason, tends to stay cooler than other surfaces.

your kitten will be fine. think of all the feral cats and kittens in the south. i had some ferals in my back patio a couple of years ago. they would stay in the shade until it got over 90 degrees, and then they would go under the concrete slab of my back patio (there was a hole underneath). i live in the greater new orleans metro area. in fact, the ac makes the house so cold sometimes that my cat gets on her heated mat. she does like her cool water in the stainless steel bowl on the kitchen tile. you could put ice cubes in your kitten's water dish.

thank you for the advice. I did think about how all those poor feral cats do it but i was still a little scared. I think i am going to stick with fans because the window the AC would go in is the one Seven loves to look out.

Oh, he'll be fine. Cats are very adaptable animals. I would worry about old kitties before I worried about kittens. We have a 12 yo dog and we won't let him go out any longer thanit takes him to go to the bathroom, the heat just wears him down soooo fast. Our 2 yo dog, she goes out and messes around for 30 minutes and we have to go out and force her back in the house, she loves it outside. No way would we let Charlie out there that long.

Though, like others have said, your kitty may not be as active or hungry so keep that in mind.

Cats really do seem to like the heat. I keep my a/c set to 80-82 degrees when I'm away. Whenever I get home I usually find about half the cats sprawled out on the tile floor and the other half out on the screened-in patio in the 105 degree heat. :dk:

Sugar spends half of the day on the screened-in porch and half on top of the cabinets where the a/c blows.  They all go in and out all day long.

Hi cats4sky
Your kitten should be fine.  You have fans and he's indoors with water and food.  I have a resident feral cat that took over my garage about 6 years ago and she does fine in the heat. I keep fresh water and food for her in her "corner" that she has claimed as her home.  I also keep fresh water outdoors in a shaded area all day. She can come and go in and out of the garage as she pleases.   She generally wanders into the garage during the day and naps on a small pallet of Italian ceramic tile I leave out there for her to lie on when it's hot.  I had it left over from a kitchen remodel and decided to use it for this purpose.  The garage is heated so in the winter when it is really cold out she basically lives in the garage.  She even uses the litter box.
