Hi guys, to refresh your memory or pick you up to speed, this was my original post on Levi http://www.thecatsite.com/t/244627/cat-seems-to-have-

a-hard-time-peeing

Over the past few weeks, there have been some progress. Levi had been sitting on the box for a normal amount of time and did start to produce a noticable increase in urine (still not the "normal" amount). However, I noticed this today. I could not believe my eyes...

So his pee was 1/8 of the size it used to be, today it was 8 times the size it used to be. Is this the progress that I'm looking for??? I'm still shocked.

That's definitely very weird..... Hopefully several pees in one huge clump.... I would clean that and watch him carefully over the next day or so..... If it continues to happen, at least a call to the vet would be wise....
My RB cat Gracie used to do something similar, as she always peed on the same spot in the box, on the sides.... By the end of the day, I had a massive clump. I have never seen laying flat like that, but I think it can happen.....

Perhaps crystals or other material had caused a bladder or urethral blockage (or partial blockage as you said he did urinate small amounts),

and he finally passed the "stone".

What a relief that must have been, if so.

I'm reminded of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer passes his stone at the circus, and the elephants are spooked and the high wire act falls, from the scream.

Maybe you slept through Levi's loud meow of victory?!

Thanks for your response Carolina! I've never seen anything like it. My friend doesn't scoop her litter box (she just changes it weekly), and I've seen how it gets... clumps of pee everywhere in the box. I scoop my litter boxes twice a day, otherwise my other cat Huckleberry will pee elsewhere. I found this humongous pee spot 16 hours after I scooped, at most. Levi always covers his pee, and none of this was covered, I really think it was all at once (maybe alleviating his symptoms from having crystals). It's just so strange. I've just never seen that... and for it to go from one extreme to the other is so bizarre. I'll make an appt with my vet and see what she thinks.

Looks to me like he did go all at once after the blockage passed. I haven't seen such a big pee clump outside of a diabetic cats' box - not saying that's what's going on with Levi though.

That doesn't really look like it's pee to me. . .it looks like it was splashed in from higher up, like someone threw a cup of water in there. Usually when they pee, it seeps up into the clay from the bottom (because he pees in one spot and it spreads). But in that pic you can see the splash marks where it come in from the top. Is there ANY way something could have spilled into the box? Or maybe he threw up some water (stilll looks like a bit much for that, though)?

There was no sign of anything that spilled, I looked around. No empty cup, nothing. I see what you're saying though... it's really weird.

The more I think about it, the more I think it was a blockage that got pushed out by sheer force of urine volume that accumulated.

Like a boulder got moved from a backed up stream.  Opening the floodgates...

Since it probably hurt like all hell,

he might've been shifting as it happened and top sprayed with a lot of force, instead of the usual quiet tinkling that happens.

When I spray my garden soil with a powerful hose side to side, it gets the top very wet before the liquid has a chance to soak in,

so maybe that's the scenario that occured?

How is he doing now?

I hope he continues to drink well.

As the saying goes - "Dilution is the Solution to the Pollution!" in urine problems.

I just passed a kidney stone a few weeks ago, and the scenario you describe is just what happened.
