My father-in-law considers soup a "must" as a first course, and a friend always has dessert (usually fruit). A meal isn't complete to my husband and me unless we have a salad (usually from the garden/greenhouse, so very fresh).

What do you "have" to have at dinnertime?

A bit (and only about 3 ounces or so and not necessarily meat) of protein and lots of veggies. Hopefully some fruit. We don't worry about dessert unless it's the weekend. Salad as a first course or, most often, with the meal as our vegetables. Sometimes we'll have a starch, but not that often. If we do it's usually 1/2 of a baked potato.

Dessert isn't a must with me- and now with Paul's limited sugar intake he'll have to learn to ignore sweets.    With us a salad is almost always a must - we have it with dinner.

Funny, my husband is always teasing, "Why do we always have to have 3 things?" So, same as Nat, protien, starch, veggies. Of course, a salad can be the veggies.

Meat has always been a must for us, however, I have eliminated meat from my diet and DH has greatly reduced his consumption as well so our meat 'must' has turned into optional and our 'must' has turned into vegetables. If we have a starch it's brown rice.

Unless I'm making Chinese food, I MUST have a green salad.  Along with that, some (usually vegetarian) protein, a carb, a hot vegetable or combination of vegetables, and something to drink.  I love casseroles, too, though, and stews, soups, things like that.  But the salad is a must.  Sweets?  Not so much, though I'll have something very small if I have it.

I am one of those people who can eat a bagel for a few days then go to the next thing for few days.

I was on stuffed pepper kick but it is to hot to be cooking them and my toaster oven is to small to reheat much.  now its pasta with mozzarella in sauce.

Growing up tho it was always 3 things.  mashe potatoes were near daily as sister loved them.

Whatever I eat at dinnertime :tongue2:. It was the same when I was a kid, no set pattern or anything. Could be meatloaf for lunch and cereal for dinner. Whatever we felt like.

We always have to have veges!! One way or another. Either a full salad as a meal or fresh veges on the side with meat and potatoes. I also make a lot of stir frys with veges. :D

If we are at a restaurant we will get an appetizer, but not usually dessert. At home we don't normally have either. If we have salad, it is normally our main course with grilled meat.

I'm not really particular when it come to the actual dinner, but I have to have a drink, and lots of it. I usually will drink at least 4 glasses of whatever I'm drinking- I'm a server's worst night mare :lol3:

We usually have a meat, green vegetable, bread and usually a yellow vegetable too, like sweet potato.  We drink water most of the time with our meals and we do have a whole wheat roll and some fruit.

Salad, then a meal that is approximately 1/3 protein, 1/3 low carb veggies and 1/3 carb - usually some multi-grain, low cal bread or a bit of dark chocolate with nuts.  And decaf (since I can't have caffeine any more..still must end my breakfast and dinner with coffee).

A cup of Meow Mix wet food, a teaspoon of kitty treats and a little half & half.

Daddy has to eat whatever Momma puts in front of him.

I can eat anything and consider it dinner. If I am going to put the effort in and actually cook dinner it is some form of protein, usually rice or potatoes and if neither of those some bread, and lots of veggies. Growing up I hated eating my veggies now I love them.

Lol, you would only be a nightmare at my table if you were one of those who has a full drink when I check on you and then the next time I check on you its still full and then when I come back again just a few minuets later you suddenly have an empty glass and you act like you have been out for an hour when I tell you I will be right back with more. And I am one of those servers who will always make sure I get drinks out as quickly as possible, even if I have to ask another server to bring it to you so i can grab more stuff for other tables. I don't care how many you drink if you drink them at a pace where I can bring you one before you run out. The other people that get me are the ones that I drop off drinks and before I have the order for the whole table their entire drink is gone and they are shaking their ice at me. Now that is a sign I am going to be bringing lots of drinks out.

Thank you for the smile this morning!!! That was so cute!

You know, there are times when Rick is away that a bowl of cold cereal will make a good supper for me. It's all I'm hungry for and it works. Other times, I'll throw together a veggie dip and sit in front of the tv with my dip and a few vegetables and I'm happy. Obviously, I don't do that when dear Richard is home, but when he's away and I really don't feel like cooking, something simple works.
