We adopted Miss Estella in 2005. At the time she was three years old. We believe she is either 1) Siberian Forest Cat, 2) Norwegian Forest Cat, or 3) Maine coon, or perhaps some mix. She has long hair, with two coats, the top being very glossy and waterproof, and the bottom being like down, ear and feet tuffs, often chirps/trills and yowls, but doesn't like water. Any ideas? We really don't care what she is, except for the fact that one day we'd like to get another kitty and would prefer to adopt one like Miss Estella. We love her quirkiness and personality! Her weight ranged from 15-21 lbs. We put her on a diet because she was categorized as overweight, but she really is a big, strong kitty, with a very long body. She has a very round middle, and "waddles" like a coon when she walks regardless of her weight. She had legs that were the same length.

I joined this forum because of the recent loss of our beloved Miss Estella. I am determined to find out more about her and her breed so that I can properly handle any challenges that I may be faced with in the future. While I know that I gave her the best life any kitty could have, I am pained at her sudden passing and wonder if I could have done anything differently. Our family loved Miss E, but I guess was not fully aware of the impact she had on our day-to-day lives and activities. We are all lost, including my "I don't like cats" Husband (circa 2005). He has since admitted that his feelings have changed and that he will forever and ever be a cat lover.

Hello and welcome to TCS. Estella was a gorgeous cat and I am so sorry you have lost her. Without papers it is impossible to give a breed name to her, and the vast majority of cats have no 'breed' in their background, unlike dogs. All breeds have been selected on the basis of looks and traits found in the general cat population, so it is not unusual to find a cat who resembles a certain breed or breeds.

One can never replicate a friend, but I am sure you know that. However if you want to find a cat who resembles Estella in any way then perhaps you should look to adopt from a shelter, where you can find adult cats who have their looks and personality already fixed. There are so many who need homes, and many people will only take kittens, whose final apppearance can onloy be guessed at. Wiht an adult you would know exactly what you were gewtting, and you could get to know the cat before taking it home. Good luck.

Where my cats are
Welcome to TCS!  I'm so sorry to hear about your Miss E's passing. She was a beautiful kitty!!

I'm no help with guessing what her background is.  Like Jenny said; it's pretty much impossible to identify a breed from what all I've read here over the years.  But you could keep an eye on shelters and rescues, like via petfinder, for cats with similar coats and things like that.  And even go to shelter to look and spend time with different kitties.  Sometimes you just know when the one you see is the one for your family.  That is how it was for my cat Bunny, who actually lives with my Mom.  She grabbed my heart the instant I saw her.  At the time my husband was not agreeing to a cat for us (he is allergic; eventually he agreed to a kitten and then we ended up with 2...hehe).  I was just at the shelter because my Mom had found a kitty she wanted to adopt.  We both couldn't get Bunny from our minds (she was an adult cat, 2-3 years at the time too).  2 days later she went home to my Mom's house where she still is almost 9 years later.

Sorry I'm not more help.  And good luck finding your new kitty!!
