Box is Buggy

I took in Tessa when she showed up at my door. At first, I did not realize she was pregnant. But, as all pregnant mommies do (human or otherwise) she began to "show".  Her four babies - Gibbs, McGee, Ziva and Tony, just turned 5 weeks old on Saturday.  

I had to go out of town for 9 days, and when I returned home last night, I noticed that there were these little bugs in the litter box.  My friend and her son, who I entrusted my babies to while I was gone swore up and down to me that the box was regularly cleaned, scooped and changed.  I am doubting that due to the mess I had to clean up upon returning home.  I use Tidy Cat clumping litter for multiple cats.  Before I went out of town, there never was a bug in my home.  

My question is..... What are these bugs, where did they come from and why did they come? I am really upset about this.

Welcome to TCS!!  I cracked up when I read the kittens names!  My DH is shaking his head at me...I told him I always thought that would be cool to name a litter of kittens!  Love NCIS!! haha

What do the bugs look like?  I would empty the box completely and clean it out really really well.  I also use Tidy Cat and I've never had bugs in the box.  I did have to treat my cats for worms once; but I didn't ever see evidence in the litter box.
