There's really no need to comment on this post. I just needed to vent.

We adopted Smudge a couple of months ago and took him in for a wellness check-up about a month ago. At that time, our vet noticed that Smudge had acne and his chin was swollen. So he prescribed a benzoyl peroxide wash and muciprocin ointment. While the comedones cleared up, Smudge's chin swelled up even more and became red, plus his lymph nodes became enlarged. I called the vet and he was surprised when I told him what was going on. We put Smudge on Clavamox for the swelling and I made an appointment to take him in the following week.

In the meantime, I was petting our other cat Abby and noticed a tiny little bump on her back. So off to the vet she went. He aspirated it and said that the cells weren't alarming but they definitely weren't normal cells. So he felt like we should remove it and biopsy it. That will be happening tomorrow.

The Clavamox helped a teensy bit for Smudge's chin but when I took him to his appointment, our vet was like, "Holy cow! That looks terrible!" So he switched Smudge to Baytril, took him off the muciprocin and said to wash his chin every 3rd day. This seems to be working and hopefully his chin is on the mend. His lymph nodes are still enlarged but are definitely decreasing.

HOWEVER, I was petting him on Sunday and noticed a lump on one of his rear legs. It's about the size of a grape, just under the skin and easily manipulated. He's not bothered by it at all. I'm hoping it's just a fatty tumor but I made another appointment for him just in case.

On top of that, our dogs' annual check-ups are this week as well. Gah!

Again, no need to comment if you don't want to. But please send some positive vibes our way that Abby's bump is non-scary, Smudge's chin clears up and his lump is also non-scary, my dogs pass their check-up with flying colors and I keep a grip on my sanity. Ha!

Thanks so much!

Perhaps this will make you feel better. I once had eight cats with chin acne at the same time, all to be scrubbed twice a day and pilled. The cat with the worst case was so big and slashed me up so badly when I tried to clean him that I ended up boarding him at the vet for a week so they would deal with him.  Then I had 9 cats with a bloody diarrhoea virus that the vets had never seen before, all on four medications. One of the cats (foster) was so feral, and came so close to dying of it, that I had to flatten him (pretty much), bundle him in a carrier, and haul him to the shelter for treatment. It took two vets, two techs and me holding him down to administer fluids, syringe feeding and medication.

Yes, it never rains but it pours. Hopefully, all will be an annoyance rather than anything serious.

Thanks, guys!

Simka - Yes, that definitely made me feel better. But wow...I can't even imagine going through all that. You are one dedicated kitty caregiver! And I assume you emerged with your sanity (mostly) intact?
Luckily, Smudge is super laid back so the worst that he does when I scrub and medicate him is give me a hurt look like, "HOW could you do this to me? What did I ever do to you?"

Kluchetta - All of ours eat out of glass/stainless steel. He had the acne when we adopted him and so I'm not sure what the rescue was feeding him out of. And hi from Colorado Springs!

I've never used a plastic dish/plate since. Although, the culprit turned out to be a new cat kibble I was trying that including cheese and was oily. It was pricey too, in more ways than one!
