I was traveling last week and the kids were with Kelly :heart3:
Got home Friday night, all was good..... Bugsy ate his dinner, appeared to be healthy and happy..... Then things changed Saturday.
He had his Breakfast around 9:30 and threw it up around 3pm. Even after all those hours, it was completely undigested. Lots of bile, a tiny bit of hair.
I gave him a meal of WL chicken (I always do that so his tummy doesn't fill up with acid) and he threw it up a few hours later - also undigested.
Then I served dinner around 6:30, and a few hours later, he threw up - again, undigested.
I scooped him up and took him to the ER vet.
My fear and intuition is a hairball blockage..... He doesn't have diarrhea, is not acting sick, and Lucky and Hope are not sick, eating the same food. A few weeks ago Bugsy had a itching spell and started over-grooming by a bunch.... His hairballs are already huge, and with that on the top of it, I feared the worst.
The E-vet took 2 x-rays. Even though hairballs can not be seen on x-rays, a typical gas pattern is formed, indicating blockage - he did not show that. The vet said depending on how dense the hairball is, you can see a shadow as well..... None was there to be seen. Doesn't have a fever.
She said to fast him to the rest of the night, gave him a shot of Cerenia, and told me if he gets worst to bring him back. We don't know what caused it.... Just that he seems to not be blocked.
I have been giving him Diagel, and also gave him a Pepcid last night, as I knew he would be full of acid this morning after over 24hr without eating :(, and would throw up for sure if he didn't take it. I am also only feeding him easy to digest foods like Chicken and Turkey breast, and adding digestive enzymes to make it easier for him to digest it.....
So far so good.....
He has kept breakfast, kept a snack of WL chicken, and knock on wood, will keep the dinner I just served. His behavior is normal, his appetite is normal.....
I am leaving tomorrow again :( 4am, and have instructed Kelly to take him immediately to Dr. E in case he throws up for an Ultrasound. :cross: it won't come to that..... :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
I am terrified, I HATE that I am going away tomorrow, I just can't stop thinking for a minute about leaving him behind :bawling: I am counting every minute as a minute that he hasn't thrown up..... God, I just wish I was here tomorrow......
If you can spare some vibes for my baby boy..... for him to be ok.... and for this to just be a fluke, a bug he ate, or something very minor.....

Aw Bugsy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And poor momma. :( :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Absolutely HEAPS of vibes this is EITHER a hairball, and it's either on its way out, or it's shifted around so he can digest his food now - and he WILL pass it, or get it up, OR that he ate a bug that didn't agree with him! :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :heart2: :rub:

Good vibes to Bugsy, and to you Carolina!
Its totally likely he just ate something weird.  Its a great sign that he has held down something.

Poor lil guy
. Its so scary when they get sick, because you can't ask them "how are you feeling?" or "did you eat something you shouldn't have?" But you have done awesome by taking him to the vet so quickly, giving him Cerenia and an antacid and I am sure its helped out alot!!

Your an amazing cat mom and Bugsy loves you for it!

Sending lots of positive healing energy his way!!

More vibes for Bugsy! :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

It's tough for sure that you have to leave tomorrow, but you've certainly done all you can for him now and he will be looked after while you're gone.

Carolina, many many heartfelt best wishes for Bugsy.

And some info.

I'm not particularly fond of this article but there is one sentence in it worth paying attention to.

Many cats actually have a motility disorder in their stomach that creates hairballs. Instead of propelling food toward the pyloris in a synchronal fashion, their stomachs contract erratically, tossing hair together to clump and accumulate.

Another important article

And some extremely important information

Thank you guys :hugs:
It's been a bit over three hours since he ate dinner, and so far, he is hloding his own :cross:
One meal to go before I hand things to Kelly.
I leave to the airport about 4am - I don't think I am going to sleep tonight.... I have a bunch of things to do, and also want to keep an eye on him.....
I will feed them a few treats before leaving so there is no risk of acid in the am when Kelly feeds breakfast.
Hoping and praying that's all behind us..... If he keeps all meals today I will feel much better for sure :vibes:

Hi Violet, thanks :wavey:
Yep, Bugsy does have IBD, so I am aware of the motility issues..... He is on raw and doing amazing on it - his Issues (diarrhea, and so on) completely disapeared, but he is a furry boy, and sometimes, even though not as often now, he does have hairball issues. He doesn't hack - all of the sudden he just vomits a monster. Raw has made much better though, he passes a lot of hair.....
His vet and I are on the same page as far as no longer vaccinating him, so we are good there.......
Diagel helps quite a bit.... I prefer over vaseline, as it has many different properties, not only helping with motility, but as a natural anti-inflammatory, soothing the intestinal tract as well. It also kills bacteria on the spot in case this is a bacterial issue - even though I am pretty sure it isn't, I rather cover all fronts.... and since it's all natural, it works great on his system.

Hopefully he will continue to improve.:cross:
He is already laying at the kitchen, waiting for his late night meal...... just being Bugsy :)

just adding my vibes that all is back to normal.  If not, at least Kelly knows what to do, and you can definitely trust her to do it!

BooBoo and I are sending you good vibes.  Maybe he just had an off day and hopefully it will clear up.  Does he get stressed when you are gone?  Just wondering if maybe the stress could have caused it?

Poor Bugsy, hopefully he continues to keep food down and you can relax while you are away.

Quick follow up here on Bugsy....
It's 2:30am, and I am just about finished with my packing - I leave at 4..... I was working on some reports, and doing a bunch of stuff - it never ends :sigh:
Anyways, Bugsy so far kept all meals today :cross: hopefully this is it :cross:
I just gave him another dose of Diagel..... Will tell Kelly to give another one tonight, and he should be all good, knock on wood.
It has been a boring turkey-chicken-turkey-chicken kind of couple of days for everyone, but better this way, I guess
GTG now, still bunches to do before leaving to the airport :(
Thanks for all the vibes for my baby boy, he is my life :heart3:

OH hun.... I am so sorry first of all that this happened over the weekend to your baby boy :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: And now secondly, it sounds like some good news over night :cross: I will absolutely, positively be sending ENORMOUS vibes to you having to be away and to Busgy that he will be just fine now. Hopefully whatever it was, hairball :dk:, is on it's way out. :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross: :vibes: :hugs: :cross:

p.s. I wonder if you should again consider the lion cut for your little "goat" this summer :dk: Didn't you do that last year? Might give you peace of mind with the hairball concern and the over-grooming he does at times. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Absolutely he has them from us!  It can be so hard to have a concern for a cat who's sick.  I know so well.  And to have to be away during an illness episode is awful.  May he be helped to recuperate fully to wellness by his latest treatment!  All the BEST to him and to you, too.
