I have a 3-year-old female cat named Jade. She plays fetch with ponytail holders, loves treats (but not the soft kind.), and just LOVES her belly to be rubbed. Today, I went and rubbed her belly and she kicked my hand away. I tried again, and she moved away. But, she always rolls over like she wants her belly rubbed. Even if i just lightly put my hand on her belly, she attacks my hand! Can anyone tell me what's wrong with her???

Cats certainly are mysterious that way, aren't they? There is so much people don't understand about them I am not surprised.

If there are no symptoms of injury, infection, or disease, it could be behavioral. Have you seen or felt any other changes?

No, just that she doesn't want her belly rubbed or touched.

This can be a sign that there is something physically wrong, even if you're not seeing any other "symptoms" yet. For example, a kitty that formerly loved being petted along their back, including the base of their tail and hip area, may now begin to exhibit displeasure (attacking, biting, etc.) because of arthritis that has developed.

If this continues for more than a few days, I would take Jade (love her name!) to the vet just to get checked out to be sure it isn't a physical problem. Could be urinary in nature, swallowing an inedible object, or any other number of reasons for her to react the way she is now--it's out of the "norm" for her to express her displeasure in this manner after all this time.

Ramsey loves his nightly brushing and he loves it when his tummy is brushed.  One night I went to brush his tummy and he hissed and leaped from my lap.  I was pretty surprised by it.  Next night, same thing.  I took him to the vet for a look see and Xray.  Nothing.  He was fine.  Just in one of his moods I guess.  He'll do it every now and then but I've nailed down the cause of it... I *think*.  When he's upside down on my lap and looking up, he will sometimes see one of the dog's toys on the back of the sofa.  Ordinarily this does not bother him but if the toy is stuffed and has eyes he seems to get upset.  LOL... Our cats are truly great characters ;)  If you are concerned about Jade, take her to the vet or at least call the vet to set your mind at ease and to rule out any physical issues that might be there.
