Good morning

My parents are planning on having a garage sale in a couple weeks.  My Dad has collected a bunch of useless junk over the years so they want to sell all they can.

What's the best thing you ever found at a garage sale?

The best thing I found was an old TV from the 1980's.  It still works today.  I have my old NES and Sega Genesis hooked up to it

A ton of really good cookbooks in immaculate condition. I bought everything for $25. What a score that was.

I had been out for my lunch walk in the neighborhood around my office. Normally I don't go into yard sales when I'm out walking like that, but something told me to check this one out. I did, asked the woman to please hold them as I was going back to the office for my car and the money. She did and I bought them all.

I bought a set of 6 hand-made modular wooden bookcases for $60! The purchase included a large bookshelf, a small one, a corner shelf, and three end pieces (all with shelves).

That was 25 years ago, but they are beautiful stained dark wood and have fit every place I have lived since then 'cause you can arrange them however you want/need to fit the room! Best buy EVER for me.

Huge dog crate for 15.  4 feet long in decent shape and I really really needed one that weekend and was almost going to skip the sale and go to petstore only but stopped by.  couldn't see it from street because it was folded.

I love yard sales and flea markets. I've gotten so many good things over the years.

I went to one last week.  The lady was getting divorced & selling her house. She was a fellow bird nut.  I bought a hummingbird garden sign, and told her my hummingbird/Mom story.  She insisted I take the heated birdbath she was selling--for free! I've always wanted one, but was too cheap to buy one. It's funny, many of the items she had, Mom once owned the same ones: 2 sets of dishes, a Michigan Rummy game (loved that one as a kid, as the "kitty" for the money/chips had a black cat's face printed on it), and a couple of other items.  The jewelry box I bought was similar and the same brand as Mom's--and the old lady who had it even had left a Bingo chip in it (Mom was really into Bingo). Mom always seemed to have a Bingo chip or 2 in her jewelry box. It was like revisting my childhood! the seller was so nice. We chatted for about 30 minutes.

I once scored a brand-new, un-opened set of high-quality flannel sheets for $5 (the price tag=$79) on the same street.

The cat rescue agency I volunteer for used to have an annual yard sale to benefit the shelter--on the same street!  I remember getting lovely brass cat bookends there.

Do second-hand shops count? If so, I picked up a HUGE, well-made china cabinet for a mere $80 (it was $200--which I would've paid).  Little Miss loves to perch on the CURVED top! It's so funny to see those little eyes peering down at me in the dark!

The very best thing I ever found at a garage sale is a tiny spade/shovel.  It's like a garden trowel only with a really long handle.  It soooo helps with the back when gardening
