Hello everyone, I just found this forum today and I am hoping someone will be able to help me out a bit. I noticed this morning that my young female cat (about 2 years old) has started to lose fur on her lower tummy. Also, there are what look to be scabs all over her stomach as well. I have no idea when this started, but it can't have been too long ago because I frequently pick her up and rub her tummy and I never noticed anything wrong until this morning. I never see her scratching her stomach area, but she does scratch a lot around her neck area and I have noticed she has scabs around her neck. I thought she was scratching her neck because she had fleas, but now I'm not sure that's why she was. I have two other cats in the home and neither of them have any of these problems. She is a completely indoor cat. I am worried about what it could be. I am planning on bringing her to the vet next weekend, but I am afraid it might get worse before then. I was thinking that maybe it could be some form of allergy, since my other cats do not have this problem. I tried to take a picture of her stomach this morning, but she was getting too fidgety so I couldn't get a good one. If I am able to get a good picture of it later I may come and add it so that you all can see exactly what it looks like.

Thanks everyone for any advice you may have!

Hmmm... my first though was fleas possibly. It seems to have cropped up pretty quickly.  It may possibly be an allergy but if you're only finding it on her stomach... I dunno.  Let us know what the vet says if you have time to post an update.

I was thinking allergies because I used to have a cat who had so many (>30) he needed a dermatologist.

Of course, I need pictures to know if your cat has the same thing Wilbur did.

Poor girl!  I'd tend to say allergies, but you should get her to the vet for some relief for the itching.  Have you recently changed her food, litter, or carpet/floor cleaner?  Also, do you treat her for fleas?

Having had a kitty with allergies that caused him to lick and "mow" bald spots on his abdomen and forelegs, I'd be remiss in not suggesting that you see if there is a holistic vet (someone trained as a D.V.M. but also with holistic training, esp Chinese Meds and/or acupuncture) that you can get to. We work with a number of different vets, and none of them were able to help our kitty much, other than suggesting steroids, which he couldn't take because of his immune system. We found a holistic vet, and she treated him with Chinese herbs, and it solved the problem.
