Embarrassed to ask but need to help my friend.  She wants to give her cat an in-home enema and after all the time of having a cat I do not know which opening in a female cat is the rectum - top or bottom?  I think she should go to vet but willing to help her - just do not know which is which.  Please - not a prank posting --

Agree with you...but still, at least want to give her right info if she insists -- top or bottom?  I've tried saying go to vet.  At least want to tell her which is which and can't believe I don't know after all these years.

Because it is so dangerous to give a kitty an enema without knowing what you are doing (which sounds like the case here), let alone what to use that is safe for a kitty enema (e.g. one can NOT use human products because they are deadly for cats), I would STRONGLY urge you to tell your friend to take her kitty to the vet.

If NOT an emergency situation, if kitty is constipated she can use one of the following either syringed via mouth or in food:
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of pure canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ghee or unsalted butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon of psyllium husk powder mixed with 2 tablespoons of warm water
  • 3-5 mL/cc of Slippery Elm Bark broth (made by using 1/4 teaspoon bulk SEB or 350-400mg from capsule to 2 tablespoons of just boiled water, then cooled--thickness will be egg white consistency) Note: do not give SEB 30-60 minutes before or after medications
  • 1/8 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
Adding extra water to canned food will also help.

This sounds like pretty close to an emergency situation, so I would tell her to take her kitty to the vet as soon as possible and NOT to attempt an enema at home.

I will only recommend your friend takes this cat to a vet!!! Do not attempt to give a cat an enema - especially since you or your friend don't know the difference between the rectum and vaginal opening. Take the cat to a vet. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

One of my cats has had an enema done twice both times done by a vet. I didn't even watch it being done and it's not something I would attempt to do.

Why has your friend decided to give the cat an enema, is she trained? obviously not if she doesnt know which bits are where please please get her to take the cat to a vet, she could do untold  damage to the cat and end up with a much larger vet bill at the end of it. In answer to your question we are all animals and  built in the same way, try walking on all fores.

I would let your friend get her own answers.  I wouldn't want to think I had assisted in the process of giving a cat an enema.  Unless she is a vet, she doesn't need to do that.
