Oh dear, clearing round the back of my shed this morning I found a nest on the ground, and on investigating it had three fledglings in it, partly feathered, all alive but only just moving. The nest was partly broken in two. I think it fell (was pushed?) out of the holly tree above. I put it back in the tree as securely as I could, but sadly I don't think the babies have much chance. I have no way of knowing how long they were there and there was no sign of any parents. Nature is cruel sometimes.

We had that happen a lot at the horse barns in the indoor arena :sigh: Sometimes the nest would fall from the rafters. The parent's would always swoop down and try to care for the babies. We just put the nests aside in a safe place. They were still cared for unless of course a barn cat came along when no one was watching. :sniffle: Yes - nature is very harsh at times.

We have a bird rehab center here that takes in baby birds of all sorts and has great success in raising them. They have trays full of babies, just like little egg boxes. They also have prepared foods to feed them. It's just amazing how well they do.
