My cat is pregnant and she is huge :-( I have read on the Internet about signs that labour will start but she is not showing any, she is not being affectionate, she is not grooming herself a lot, she is not nesting, all she has been doing the past week is lying on the floor in the kitchen and sleeping she is however eating and pooing loads. She just stays in the doorway all day. I'm going to take her to the vet on Thursday if nothing changes. Does anyone know if this is normal? The kittens are moving loads inside and I have seen some huge kicks. She is a house cat but my little girl let her out by mistake and she was missing for 3 days. She has now been booked in to be spayed at the end of August so this never happens again. Please help I have never seen a cat this big before she finds it hard to walk and she can't use the stairs.

I was in the same boat as you, i didn't think she could get any bigger and it seemed like she was Pregnant forever. All she did was eat, poop and sleep but she did like to play still. She hadn't shown much sign of nesting or anything, the only thing she started doing last few days was licking her lady bits more often. Then this morning everything  changed, its strange but you wonder about symptoms of labour and wonder is this it? but when it does start its unmistakable as labour. I wouldn't worry to much if she hasn't gone over 70 days tbh but if your worried best bet is get her checked by the vet.

I'm not sure on her dates but I'm taking her tomorrow anyway, tonight when she was drinking out the tap (she is too posh to drink from a bowl lol) I bent down to look at her lady bits and there was a couple of tiny bits of dried blood, it also looked like some clear wet discharge was there as it was shiny. All she does is sleep on the floor in the kitchen, get up and moves to another spot in the kitchen then gets up to eat drink poo and sleep again bless her.

Why stress a pregnant girl with a vet visit for no reason? not something I'd be doing
Sounds like she's not far off if she's had some discharge

Well I just got up and the first thing I do is put food out for her and she has decided she is not hungry so I think your right I may skip the vet as I have read some cats don't eat before birth. I was just panicking because it's the first (and last) time she has been pregnant and her belly has been huge for ages.....oh while Im writing this she is now eating lol.

Remember that cats don't read the Internet so they do what they want.  They also nearly always deliver safely with no help, but you do need to keep an eye on things just in case.

If you made a note of the date your little girl let her out then add 65 days and you have her due date.  You could have got her spayed as soon as she came back.

I live on a army estate in the middle of nowhere and there are only a couple of female cats on the camp and 3 males that have had the op so I did not think she could of got pregnant but I suppose someone with a Tom must of moved onto the barracks and that's how she got pregnant. I can not remember when she got out :-( its only been the past 5-6 weeks I have noticed her getting fat, I have seen a cat give birth before (actually it was this cat I watched being born) so i know what to expect. I also rescued a cat from a shelter and both of them are booked in to get spayed (pregnant one in August). I have made dark quiet corners away from my dog and other cat all over the house but she just wants to curl up with my dog on the kitchen floor.

Entire tom cats roam widely searching for females in call, so the father could have come from quite some distance away.  She may well have mated with more than one tom as well, and they could have been barn cats or ferals rather than house cats.

All you can do is watch and wait.  Do make sure you have your vet details to hand, and find out what their out of hours procedure is.  If she needs the vets in the middle of the night (unlikely but it happens occasionally) you don't want to be struggling to get this info.

If you are keeping any kittens make sure you get them neutered by 6 months old so this can't happen again.

There is barbwire around the 12ft wall, so unsure how they could of got in. Anyway it's happend now and nothing I can do about it now, it's my fault for not getting her spayed. I just took her temp and it is 37.0 degrees so I will just keep a eye on her temp. Thank you for everyone's info I will get out of hours numbers to hand now. I hope she will be ok giving birth, and I hope the kittens are ok too.

There is probably a tiny hole somewhere in the perimeter they got in through.

Please, leave the thermometer in it's case.  Taking her temperature may or may not give a clue when they are going to arrive, but they will come when they come and personally I'd be pretty upset if someone kept taking my rectal temperature.

It's a cat ear thermometer. And yes you could be right about a cat coming through as I have seen a few foxes, I'm thinking it will be a stray or a farm cat though.

I know cats that would laugh at a 12 foot wall with barbwire.  There really is not type of fence that can stop a strong tom cat from getting to a mate.

FYI, most ear thermometers are inaccurate.

I hope she has a good delivery and doesn't keep you waiting too long.

She had mucus from her lady bits at about 3am and seems restless today, her pupils are huge. I'm working from 11am-10pm today but my husband will be home watching her. I'm going to be a nervous wreck all day :-(
