The Animal Behavior Clinic at the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine is searching for Birman or Siamese cat owners to participate in a study. We are examining a possible genetic link to wool sucking behavior in these two breeds of cats. Both affected and normal purebred cats are needed. Owners will receive a survey and at-home DNA sampling kit to obtain their cat's DNA. No veterinary visit is required. Participation is free and affected cats will receive a complementary guide to behavior modification.

If you own a purebred Birman or Siamese and are interested in participating, please complete the following qualification survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XZHLY3H

For additional information on our research, please visit:

Permission to cross-post is granted.

Sounds fascinating! I love how they can gradually find genetic links for all sorts of behaviors (and not only in cats either).

If you're owned by a Siamese or a Birman, or know someone who is, please do help out!

My cat Pipsqueak - is an apple-head siamese flame point - not sure if he is purebred or not - adopted. He sucks fleece. I will see if they would accept us. :dk: Thanks though! :)

I had a Siamese cat that use to suck on her tail...she eventually quit on her own.  My new Siamese doesn't seem to have this particular disorder,  funny I never dreamed it would be something comparable to OCD in people.  Still I took the survey cause I am always willing to help if I can.

So are you looking for purebread Siamese that don't have the behavior as well? Kind of like a double-blind?
Yes, I believe they are. You can PM her for more info or just use the links in the post.

I am buying a papered Redpoint (Flame) Siamese kitten today. She is 13 weeks old and has Elizabeth Taylor blue eyes that are just enchanting. I'll most likely participate. Thx.
