I have a foster mom right now, Camille. I've had her for three weeks now and she had her kittens 9 days ago. The kittens are doing so well! All three have more than doubled in weight and are so adorable. Here's the girls:

I'm really worried about Camille's health though. She's had diarrhea the entire time I've had her. She's been on a course of first panacur, then pyrantel and then albon. Yet she still has diarrhea. She's also had a runny nose, sneezing, and inner eyelid showing since I first got her. She was on a course of doxycycline for this. Also I put L-lysine and probiotic powders on her canned food daily. Then yesterday I noticed that the lymph nodes in her neck were very swollen. I called over to the humane society and they told me we could try a shot of penicillin. So I gave her a shot of penicillin last night.. Now today she's shivering a lot. I wish I knew what was going on with this poor girl??

She's going to see the humane society vet today. I hope they figure out what's wrong with her...

She could have something less common - giardia, t. foetus for example.  Hopefully the vets will consider those things.  Also I've found nursing queens are often 'loose' anyway as they are eating a huge amount.

She's a lovely cat, hope they can sort her out.  Lovely kittens, fingers crossed she can continue to feed and look after them.

Just got back from the vet.

Cami has a temp of 107. They are not sure what's going on yet but I had to leave her there. They're going to give her fluids and IV antibiotics. I bought a stool sample also so they'll analyze that.

Ughhhh I'm so sad!!! I hope they figure out what's going on with her!

No, I actually left the kittens there too. She was still taking care of them and nursing them while we were there so we figured it'd be better to leave them all together.

Poor thing. 107 is a really high fever. I hope the kittens don't get sick as well.

Just got a call from the vet. They weren't able to get her temperature down, despite pumping her with fluids and antibiotics, so they decided to do an emergency spay. There wasn't a retained kitten but there were a few "diseased" areas. She just got out of surgery. They put the kittens back with her and she's recovering.

So they're pretty sure it's pyometra that caused the high fever. Right now they're thinking up a game plan for tonight... It sounds like they'll keep her overnight to make sure she's stable before I take her back with me.

The poor girl :(

Game plan for tonight is that Cami and the girls will spend the night under the watchful eye of their vet, at Dr. Lori's own house! Dr. Lori wanted to be able to monitor them closely so just decided to keep them with her. Talk about a great vet! I'm so thankful for all she's done for Cami and the babies. Oh, and Cami's temp has gone down to 103...... YES!!!! And she's being a great mom to the girls.

I'll be picking them all up from Dr. Lori's house tomorrow when i get off work.

Whew, so relieved!!

Sounds like a great result!  So glad you got her there in time.  Not sure it will fix her dire rear though!

I'm glad she is getting great care and that the emergency spay did the trick for her fever.
I hope she recovers quickly and starts feeling better.

I know I just sent a text to Dr. Lori to see if they'd still do a stool culture to figure out the diarrhea too.

Dr. Lori just text messaged me and said that Cami is doing great! She said "she sure loves her babies!"

I can't wait to pick them up later today.

Cami is home! Her vet report stated that her uterus was "necrotic & swollen--pyometra." So glad she got it out and is now hopefully on the road to recovery! Her temp today before she left the vet's home was 101.5. Thank goodness!

Unfortunately, two of the babies had lost 3 grams since I weighed them yesterday morning. They also both seemed dehydrated. I gave them KMR (although they wanted nothing to do with the bottle and only wanted mama!) and also gave sub-q's. They seem to be nursing fine and are still spunky little guys.. Hopefully they'll start gaining again now that mama's feeling better. I'm still gonna get up during the night and check weights/hydration and see if they need a bottle.

So relieved that my little crew is home!

Yep they all gained weight again today. They were up 15, 19 and 23 grams between the three of them in the past 24 hours!

Cami doesn't even seem phased by the fact that she just had surgery, even with the babies on her belly fighting for a nipple. She's even been trying to play and is eating a ton. She is such a trooper!!!!

Yay thats awesome!

I know cats are amazing like that after surgery. I had a cat who had to have an emergency c-section, even though her milk didn't drop for a week and after it did the vet wasn't convinced it was enough to sustain the kittens, so I was bottle feeding, but she had no problem with the kittens crawling all over her giant incision. And she was such a great mom to them.
