I just found this site, and I'm happy to see that there are other people out there wholove and rescue cats like my wife and I do. We have a small 10 acre farm with a huge old farmhouse where we live with our furkids. Instead of trying to tell all of our furkids stories in one go, I'll just list all of their names, and maybe tell their stories one by one in later posts. I'm not a very good novel writer, and our list is long!

Names and descriptions following: Gizmo, calico, oldest kitty,17,  Ghostgirl, calico, 13, Jennyanydots(Dotty), brown tabby, 12 years, Polly, gray & white tabby girl, 2 years, Misu, white long hair, 4 years, Tiblo, white long hair, 4 years(brother to Misu), Cami, tortie, 5 years, Peaches, orange and white tabby boy,3 years, Peanut, brown boy, 3 years, Oreo, black and white tux girl, 3 years, Skipper, orange tabby boy, 3 years, (Peaches, Peanut, Skipper & Oreo are brothers & sister, all Cami's kittens), Angel, gray tabby girl, 5 years,Kittygirl, gray & white Maine Coon girl, 2 years, Diva, Black & white Ragdoll girl, 3 years, Hito, orange tabby boy, 5 years, Andre, pale orange tabby boy, 3 years,Pia, black & white tux girl, 2 years, Lucyfur, black girl, 2 years, Mata, torie girl, 8 years, Bunnyboy, black and white tux boy, 5 years and Tinsel, gray & white boy, 5 years. We also have 2 dogs, Bandit, mixed breed 5 years and Baxter, mixed boxer , 15 years.

All of the ages on our furkids are an educated guess, except for Misu and Tiblo. I know pretty much exactly when they were born, within a day, as I found them when they were about 24 hours old. Yes, we hand raised them.I did have help, the help of the very best cat in the world. The cat who originally got me into rescue.Baby was that cat. She passed 3 years ago last May. She taught me just about everything I know. She was 29 years young when she passed.

All of our furkids have been fixed (of course!). We are blessed to have a huge old farmhouse that they all rule! They have many cat trees and scratching posts and they all behave as far as using those we provide and leaving the people furniture alone for sharpening those claws and working out those muscles!

Welcome 20catsownme,

My story is similar to yours, minus the farm.  It seems we always start with that one cat that teaches us more than we could have imagined. I also have a cat named Baby, I've tried to give her another name, but Baby it is. How amazing that your Baby lived to be 29. I would love to hear more about her.

I'm sure you have many wonderful stories to share about your fur babies and I can't wait to hear more about them too.

Ok, I guess because, even though she has passed, Baby is the one who started me into rescuing, and also taught me just about everything I know about cats, I should begin with her story.I was a single father, living in an apartment with my 6 month old son, and had decided to research and possibly get a pet.A friend had told me about our local animal shelter, so off we wnt, my son and I. That day I had really only gone to look at some of the animals, I had not made up my mind as of yet to what we would get. As we passed the cage baby was in, she stuck out her paw and touched my sons leg( I was carrying my son, of course). I didn't know this and had kept on walking, but my son pulled on my shirt to get my attention, pointed to Baby(not her name at the time), and said, even at 6 months old(and quite to my astonishment!), 'I want that one Dad.'

Needless to say, Baby came home with us that day. My son named her Baby, because she was smaller than both of us-toddler logic at the time:) That night Baby decided she liked what was on the table for supper(she didn't know any better than to steal food), so she jumped up on the table & took our meat. That was the first thing she learned, although it was a slower learning, one, that she would never go hungry, and two, not to steal food from our table-hahaha.I'm sure I made many mistakes, but she was always patient and never held a grudge, even after she would get scolded. She was daddy's girl all the way.

After we went to bed that night, I guess she liked the way the fish moved in the fish tank, because she caught them all.She must not have liked the way they tasted though, she didn't eat them, just caught them.Another lesson that had to be taught-not to bother the fish tank!

Back when I adopted her, I guess the shelter didn't check because the first time she went to the vet, the vet told me she was expecting. That was the first and only time I''ve had a cat that gave birth to kittens.I read so many books back then to have an idea of what to expect, and Baby was the perfect mother. She had 3 kittens, and two of them a friend took. The last one we had with us for 9 years, that was Shadow(full name, Her Mom's Shadow).Shadow looked alot like Baby, but of course, we knew which was which. It was fun to get them the same collars and have company think we just had one very fast cat!
