My boyfriend found a cat in our parking lot when he got off of work. She was crying and scared. I came out with some treats and lured her in a bit. She eventually let me pet her a tiny bit and would bat my hand for more food. She ate out of my hand a couple times. But every time we stopped giving her food or walked away she would cry. She's obviously been outside for a long time because she's so skinny. She's no more than 4 pounds and might still be a kitten since she's so little and has a baby voice, but I don't know. My boyfriend doesn't really want her inside so I left some food, water, and a towel under my car. She probably wouldn't let me catch her anyway. She won't come out from under the cars and if she's going to be under one, it might as well be mine so she can stay safe. I feel awful because it's going to be raining all night and I'm afraid she won't be there in the morning when I can take her to the vet. Do you think she will still be there? I really want to help her and I feel bad I left her. :/

There's no guarantee she'll be there, but hopefully she'll eat some of the food- although i'm not sure if she'd stay under there, the smell of food usually lures other cats/possible threats near her so she would probably find a different shelter. To me, it sounds like she's a stray who has had human interaction before and is just very scared- hence the meowing. If she's letting you pet her a bit and batting at your hand for more food it probably wouldn't be too hard to lure her close enough to catch her. Do you have a garage or anywhere else you can keep her confined until you can take her to the vet tomorrow? Or any way to convince your boyfriend "just one night"? Have them search for a microchip. Thank you for giving her food and water and trying to help!

Update: She is very easy to catch. It only took about 5 minutes of luring into the carrier. But she flipped out and was howling. We live on the third story of an apartment building. Our apt is only about 700 square feet. I put her in the bathroom and she was really scared and wouldn't stop screaming. My boyfriend got really mad at me for letting her in and the only way I could keep her was if she quieted down a little after a while, but she didn't. I'm worried she might be in heat, but I had no choice but to put her back under the car for now. My walls are paper thin and I can't upset the neighbors, Bowser was freaking out, and I have an exam in the morning so I really need to sleep. I'm going to go back out there as early as possible in the morning to see if she is still there. I feel so bad. =/

Do you have any friend, class mate or so, who can have her?  At least in their garage or cellar...

She is surely a stray / dumped.

Even a good shelter may work, as she is no semiferale (most shelter DONT work with semiferales).

Any way, she should preferably be picked up from the street.  As she is thin she is not one of those who do manage well outside, even if she did survived alone some time.

Good luck!

I bet she will still be out there today :cross: They definitely can make a lot of noise - the little kittens once captured. This must be an abandoned kitten.... she is not feral, that is for sure. Poor baby needs help and I hope you can get her to a rescue/shelter. I am sure Bowser was getting upset because of the howling and giving you his "scowling" look :lol3:. You could try again today. I am sure that the kitten will settle down once she understands. But I don't think she will like being alone. She is very scared and seems to need human companionship. Poor little baby... thanks for helping her. :hugs: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Aw, thanks for trying! :hugs: I hope you're able to find her again. :cross:

JUST for your future rescue efforts, IF ever needed again, you could have tried a low level of light in the bathroom, a radio tuned to a classic radio station, and putting a blanket over the crate. Just putting a light blanket over all but the ends of a trap almost always settles a feral cat right down.

But Lauren may be right - she was terrified, and it may have taken staying in the bathroom with her.

:vibes: :vibes: :vibes: for the baby.....
